P'ang Yun (740-808) was a well known Chinese Zen Layman.
He was once selling bamboo baskets. Coming down off the a bridge, he stumbled and fell.
When Ling-chao saw this she ran to her father's side and threw herself down.

→→→→ vertical line TOPIC: ZEN GARDEN
vertical line Posted on Feb.28.2007 @ 10:54AM EDT by Mushin
I would like to create my own little zen garden, i realize there isnt exactly any set method to making one, and from what I hear its possible to get all the materials at a local gardening store, but does anyone know what type of sand is used? ive yet to come across the seemingly shimery looking sand ive seen in so many zen garden pictures. In addition, if anyone has their own, please elaborate on it as i enjoy hearing about other zen garden ideas for inspiration.

vertical line There is a very fine white silica sand used in bronze mold making, but you have to mask up around that stuff. I'd try one of the cement/landscaping places and ask em what you want. Heavy on the quartz I imagine.

vertical line I had a beautiful Zen Garden, except my sons and their friends played Test Cricket on it all summer. Now it is even more beautifuller, at little battered but a true blessing to the eye.
