A soldier came to Hakuin and asked "Is there really a paradise and a hell?" "Who are you?" inquired Hakuin. "I am a samurai," the warrior replied. "You, a samurai!" exclaimed Hakuin. "What kind of ruler would have you as his guard?... continue...

→→→→ vertical line TOPIC: RENUNCIATION AND SIMPLICITY
vertical line Posted on Apr.27.2007 @ 09:20AM EDT by stephen

Renunciation and Simplicity

Bhikshuni Thubten Chodron

"Renunciation and simplicity are challenging topics for a materialistic, status conscious culture such as ours, where "more is better."

The sangha works all the time, but this work is not linked to the market place economy. Time is more important than money; don't seek happiness from having possessions, romantic relationships, or societal statue, but spend time on internal cultivation and benefiting others. Sangha lifestyle is 24-7, the job is to become enlightened.

Renunciation doesn't mean to give up happiness, but to give up suffering and its causes and to cultivate genuine satisfaction and joy. Since cyclic existence continues without break, aspire to make Dharma practice just as consistent.

While renunciation often has the implication of giving up, it also involves keeping. Keep precepts; commit to attaining enlightenment"

vertical line Non-attachment, acceptance, forgiveness, desiring the bliss of freedom for oneself and others above all else, these to me are renunciation. Letting go, letting go, letting go.....

The paradox of Buddhism.

How do you do something without doing something? How do you achieve enlightenment without trying to achieve enlightenment? How does one attain without the goal of attainment?

It is my view that you walk the walk as a matter of faith and non-suffering. You follow the rules as a matter of continuing wonder and fulfillment; the Buddha’s promises are self generating. MU

Perhaps this is a "hit the wall" moment --

I want to become as enlightened as those who don't want to become enlightened?

If we could wave our hands here instead of talking, it might be better sometimes.

Ah, maybe it's time for a cup of tea???  :]

vertical line The you that is doing, acheiving, attaining is not the real you. That you which is pursuing or not pursuing will play out its destiny completely independant of the real you. Let it be. You are unborn

vertical line If we let go and let be and rest as trueness of unborn Self then the playing out of the expression of the little self in manifestation will have open access to original Self. That open flow from original source will allow the unhindered little manifested self to perform its expression in a beautiful way. The little self will become a thing of Love

vertical line The mystery to me (and the ultimate of the illusion) is who or what is the one that lets go or doesnt let go? The elusive third one? They are all parts of a hole.

Enlightenment?...

I thought it was all about the cessation of Suffering...

Enlightenment is just a bonus...

Keeping precepts is not giving up things... they only help keep you with the dahrma (medicine of shakyamuni)

Truth is infinite, free from doctrines, beliefs and concepts

Away with “I”, “My”, “Self” which is hindrance if not careful

Need the aid of precepts to develop virtues and wisdom

So that one can view everything objectively with equanimity

As enlightenment is through one’s own effort and wisdom

Yet one who is in it does not speak of it when ask about it

Causing one who speak is not in it yet talk all about it

Having attained, one sees, hears, speaks and thinks not

Instead, continue to live the same kind of worldly life

Only to fulfill worldly activities until the allotted time expires

Nothing in this world is still or permanent, just phenomenal

Guess, this is what awakening to The Truth is all about

Dear ;

 Expressing my thoughts using words

You see my thoughts with your eyes

That my thoughts abides in your mind

My words  has no meaning at all

Until you see it with your inner mind

Let Equanimity Help Individual Skeptical Heart

Waste not further time on such activities

Bring us no closer to enlightenment

May you be well and happy

With Metta

Take Care

Waste not time on

Dear;

Quote: "No mind is consciousness without thought"
.....

Freedom lies beyond the field of consciousness.

J Krishnamurti

Let us put all differing viewpoints as they are

Enlighten J Krishnamurti's thoughts in our mind

His beautiful thoughts abides in our mind

In bringing us hope and aspiration in this life

So free ourselves from the field of consciousness

Have no words that cloud our thoughts and mind

Have a Blessed Day
