TOPIC: IN THE BEGINNING WAS SOUND |

In the Beginning was Sound
Not a gloss on the Gospel of John but the title of the first Reith Lecture in May 2006 of the pianist, Daniel Barenboim.
'The physical aspect that we notice first is that sound does not exist by itself, but has a permanent constant and unavoidable relation with silence. And therefore the music does not start from the first note and goes onto the second note, etc., etc., but the first note already determines the music itself, because it comes out of the silence that precedes it.'

Ah, difference between power and strength with the relation of sound to silence - what kind of relation is it? Does it dominate silence; does silence stop the sound when it wants? Can the sound go over the silences - reacting to silence much like the law of gravity. Play a note, play again the same note and give a certain amount of energy, and if you do nothing more to it, it will die. The note dies.
Play five notes that are bound, each note fights against the power of silence that wants to make it die, and is therefore in relation to the preceding note and to the note that comes after that. So when you play five notes...or nine notes...
...if each note had a big ego it would want to be louder than the note before. |

There was only sound that was noticeable when it was defined by the existance of ears, vibrations became noticeable when there were a way to detect them. The elements that would have been percieved as sound and vibration would have been recieved, being that we were there to hear and recieve them in the beginning of existance. That is why we observe and quantify our results, either by our selves or together, as scientists or self percieving beings. We all do not percieve tha which another percieves, and we are in conflict until we reach enligtenment in Nirvana. We tend to move toward simple explanatory and conservative answers, whereas science shows that the unpredictable is much more likely. This will be observed, what I type, and I will percive what I have written differently than everyone else. Our oppinions are all going to be different. Speeking of reality, we are all not aware of the truest facts at all times, there for we are all falible are never without a shadow of a doubt. Only the ignorant and the agressively so can press that they are right, but there is no judge, beyond the truest enlightened being that we refer to as Bhudda. Is this to say that we should let criminals do as they please, no. It is to say that we are all mis-percieving and mis judging due to our inability to be perfect considering all variables. We do some what of what we feel is the best we can do, and then the rest ( all we do wrong) is our deficient self beyond what is truely justice. If we live according to the true wishes of the enlightened Bhudda, we will live better, and be better off for it. Religion and philosophy falter, as do any attempt at life to an extent. Only an enlghtened being can be perfect. Knowldge is not the way to enlightenment, yet the propper training can help. If one lives by simple rules...less karma seems to be built up, and if we strive towards enligtenment we may break free from the bonds of suffering. I am not without fault, yet I am trying to be nice. |
