One day a monk paid a visit to Tinh Khong (1091-1170), a Vietnamese Zen master,
who was of the tenth generation of Vo Ngon Thong lineage, and asked:
-From old days it was talked about "direct pointing", what does that mean?

vertical line Each begins according to their abilities, just as the directions to dharamsala is different from each of our houses.

Who asks?

vertical line Don't start with Zen, or what your understanding of what zen means to you.
Start with listening, observing, in the business, in the activity of life, what we value, what we spend time with, in thought, word, and action. Zen is a tool for awakening, awakening to what you have formally ignored, and some of it is very hard to face, for most of us.

There is a wall of denial, that each of us constructs, that keeps up safe from certain freedoms, and we fight wars over it, we create great monuments to cover it, the greatest accomplishments of human minds cannot obtain the freedom, from desire.

On second thought, just visit a Zen center near you.

Are you near a zendo where you could receive some basic instructions from an experienced practitioner? A tennis coach showed me the basics. Generally, people try to sit at a regular time of day. To develop the habit of sitting at a given time. Early morning is best for some. I used to stop at a zendo to sit on the way home from work.

vertical line ...since you have a tight schedule in life..., why not insert a personal schedule for a zen-retreat for a start & see how it goes...? Actually, zen got to do with our mindfulness in our moments to moments living daily life, no more no less.

vertical line I've got an even better idea, in fact (in my opinion), it's a much much better idea, it is in fact, the best, the very best but then the very best is never really up to much....ah, hey ho, ho hum...anyway - here it is, my answer: employ a personal zen master - you may be able to get one of those all-in deals where the personal trainer is also the zen master is also the au-pair, cook and head bottle washer (live-in, naturally, of course - own room, full board all-in with 2 days off a week, minimum wage). Okay? Great. Sorted!

vertical line Ah, attention. Attention. Yes. Attention. Allow suspension of all thoughts of following anything, detached, empty, thus allowing object penetration. "Prepare my meal and wait upon me" - the substance of love is attention.
