I was just wondering how you become a zen monk and how old do you have to be.

'Enlightenment' isn't a something to 'get' or 'attain' - it's not an extra to be added to 'you'. Your approach is merely demonstrating a want, nothing more, nothing less, via your inner projections outward on to 'zen monks'. |

i've been practicing zazen for 4 years. i seriously doubt sitting on the floor facing a wall is leading toward any enlightenment.
people who seek enlightenment through some outside force scare me. must be quite empty inside. |

many people i've studied under in the Soto school sit facing walls, but i've heard the Rinzai do not.
Are there any Soto school Zen students here? |

Hi,
84,000 is a symbolic number which represent a countless number of Dharma-doors.
If you sit in front of a mirror. You get 3 entity. You, the mirror and your reflection. Take away the mirror you are left with Self. 3-1 =1. My answer none of the above. Non-Attachment.
