Thanks, I finally realised I'm posting messages in the wrong forum. Anyway, here I am thinking a statement had been made when all along a question had been asked. Shows how wrong I can be, eh? And these zen monks...er...am I to assume you mean on this forum? Now you really have to be joking. |

Zen is being awake in the monent. Seeing things for the first time over & over aging. And giving loving, kindness, compassion to all life has for you to see , fell , teast, smell ,listen. with joy and peace with each breath you take. |

Zen is in my head. This body needs a bed. It is not clear this good or bad. She's happy when she sees me, sad...

well, Rustic, he first asked in another thread how to join zen monks, and later on he still remembered to ask what zen is in the first place. Don't worry, this forum is just right for you. |

The bullshit on this forum annoys me; people cutting out in front of others in traffic and other people getting angry annoys me; drinking bad hospital tea habitually annoys me; my tight boots sqeaking in the hot dry corridors annoys me; the drug addicts in the wards shouting and demanding attention from the overworked nurses annoys me; worrying about my new baby daughter in this world; feeling guilt about not being the perfect father or husband; smelling car fumes, eating poor food in a hurry, reading a book with moments of near clarity; feeling annoyed with my lack of compassion, insight, enlightenment, religious experiences, magical powers, ESP, levitation and other such self loathings...
That was some of today's Zen. How was yours?
Regards,
Harry. |

You should have let me make it for you, the tea that is... First I start with one large styrofoam cup, filled half full of filtered water, boil it in the microwave for 2 minutes, place 2 tea bags in the boiling water, let it get good and dark, and fill the rest of the cup with ice, put a plastic lid on, with a straw, and offer sugar or sweetener.
So you have a daughter? What were you doing in the hospital?

...all those moments when I get annoyed and angry with numptys cutting ME up in traffic and the car in front of ME going slower than the speed I want to travel at and the motorist demanding HIS rights at the petrol station putting too much petrol or diesel in the tank and spilling it all over the forecourt so I have to walk in the pool of fuel and theatrically wipe my shoes hoping someone else is watching so they will do something about it and HIM racing to the door in front of ME and holding ME up while he chooses a pair of sunglasses and the routine airheads and their shopping channels and retail therapy and so-called reality tv programmes and weather forecasters and newsreaders who mispronounce words and decimilisation and metric measures on the market and engines left running in carparks while the driver reads a newspaper and habits habits habits of cruelty to animals out of so-called love for pets and demands for cheap food and children and old people that no one else seems to see and children yanking on dog collars choking dogs in town and drunks shouting at children in supermarkets and slapping down all and sundry... |

Yes, Zen is very human, to the extent that it doesn't reject what we may consider our 'inhumanity'.
"HIM", "THEM", "ME"... are perfectly useful and legitimate designations. Some Zen practitioners have even proven, through Zen practice, that these designations need not be a source of dissatisfaction. Yet it is forever pointed out that pain still hurts and efforts can still be made.
Dogen Zenji said that simply to sit in the posture of Zazen is to be a Buddha. I suppose, if the result of Zen is buddhahood, Zazen is Zen (according to Dogen). Personally I agree with him; Zen is that sort of 'action'. There are many other opinions to what constitutes Zen. Buddhahood should not be the carrot-on-a-stick that it has been/ is being made into.
When we accept that Zen won't save us from experiencing pain, loss, or death then I think we can be said to have made some progress. Zazen can make us a little more wise to the ways of ourselves, the survival techniques of our identities, the twistings of our thoughts and needs be it sex, booze, love, adoration or buddhahood.
Regards,
Harry. |

The wind speaks, in the trees, of others we have known, of others we have never known.
The voice speaks, in a language, which we wish not to change, but the voice is in the wind, it's direction is always moving toward us, within sound heard through us, like leaves listening to the tree's branches, in the wind.
We hear life, in every breath. We give life to the wind.

I have two ways of loving You: A selfish one And another way that is worthy of You. In my selfish love, I remember You and You alone. In that other love, You lift the veil And let me feast my eyes on Your Living Face.
