TOPIC: COWS' MINDS ARE PRETTY BLANK |
Posted on Sep.07.2007 @ 10:55AM EDT by stephen
Is realizing emptiness the same as having a blank mind, free from all thoughts?
No. When emptiness is directly realized, the mind is free from thoughts and concepts. However, just removing all thoughts from our mind -- peaceful though it may be -- is not the realization of emptiness. After all, cows' minds are pretty blank -- they do not have many conceptual thoughts -- but they haven't realized emptiness! Realizing emptiness involves first understanding what things are empty of -- inherent existence -- and then realizing that inherent existence is a hallucination that has never existed at all. Ven. If I could, I'd eat grass, the under your foot stuff. And I have pooped/peed outside. Yet I have no desire to be someone's happy meal. I'm just too lean. Everything I say is, _____. |

easy for you to moo, but hard to undo
Before enlightenment I'm sure that everything gets kind of ugly. And that is the reason we are here, alive, to cosmically/physically/emotionally deal with all suffering.
