vertical line Posted on Sep.21.2007 @ 12:28PM EDT by stephen

It isn't just the past we remember, it's the future too. Fifty per cent of memory is devoted not to what has already happened, but to what will happen next. Appointments, anniversaries, meetings, all the rolling engagements and plans, all the hopes and dreams and ambitions which make up any human life - we remember what we did and also what we will do. Only the knife edge of the present is 'hard' to any degree. Past and future are things of the mind, and a mind can be changed.

vertical line Memory is memory is recollection, whether it involves things you think have passsed into a past or whether it involves remembering to remind yourself of things you think you plan to do in the future. It's all happening now. Like remembering to leave a bookmark at the place you finished reading your book - the right page for next time - unless when you open it none of it seems to make any sense whatsoever. And there are no hard edges anywhere, only more illusions just like the one about 50 percent percenters. And no, paintings don't have arms. And you can't smoke a picture of a pipe, either. Do the percentages on this post.

well I suppose in a technical way one cannot smoke a picture of a pipe... but... have felt the arms of animals in pictures.. and felt the grass from a distance.. and sound and...so why not?

vertical line Representative arms should be shoulder-ed. Pipe pictures can be rolled and smoked. And perspective grass is prospective - when you can see the difference between green and blue, the dawn has arrived.

vertical line Blue and green by the foot of your bed? As sunlight finger-twiddles a chase in darkness, watching the blue and green - the instant you can tell the colours apart, birds start singing.
