'Conventionally' they refer to opposites.
Ultimately, neither has inherent existence.

Opposite ends of the mind. To want liberation from desires is to be in bondage. Enslaved in the service of nature, there is neither bondage nor liberation. |

Your mind has two ends?
To desire anything, even liberation, is to lose sight of the path.
Do you see yourself separate from nature? |

You keep asking the same question[s]. It's your mind that creates the opposites, so yeah, mind moves from one to the other [ends] - this is how you come to experience time, for example. Both are illusory [mind and time]. There is only Christ consciousness / Buddha nature but this isn't an experience the mind can understand. |

It's like this "Bondage is Liberation" thing - it can mean anything depending on how the mind looks at it because understanding happens through the interpreting mind but the mind gets mixed up and confused trying to be clever. It's the mind that wants to attain, to succeed - it looks for reflections and impressions of its importance in the eyes of the other because it thinks separate. |

To say they're the same is to deny conventional reality.
To believe oneself separate from mind is to deny ultimate truth.

Who would deny such a thing as convention? I don't worry about convention. Convention, social, society - no freedom there. And who would believe such a thing as denial? Cheers, you must be functioning on a different level. |

Somebody else should start a topic on the zen of denial and the art of the ignore, where everyone involved picks and chooses a reflection and goes to work on it, shoeshinewise. What? Oh yeah, we've got more than plenty of those. |

Renounce? Avoid nothing, attach to nothing. Not even liberation.
Ego? Just a fantasy of an "I" that can't be found.

Who Am I
Keep on asking yourself, Who am I is important
Everyday you wake up asking this big question
Live moment to moment, finding out Who am I
Very soon your mind is clear, if you stop thinking
I don’t know become clear, then your mind is clear
Now all the names and forms are made by thinking
The time I was conceived, I didn’t know Who am I
After being born, I don’t know who I was in the past
Now, I am learning to find out who I am in the present
See the truth, form as form and emptiness as emptiness
And so day by day, I realize the true meaning of Life
You know Why, What, Where, When and Who am I
Creating no more delusions and attachments to Life
How one can save self and others from their sufferings
If we care enough to look closely at what is happening
Out of ignorance, the cause of all delusions and sufferings
Now, no more form is emptiness and emptiness is form
Grasping when totally cut off then I will know Who am I
Look closely at highlighted words from the top to the bottom.

bondage is liberation.
the liberated mind binds its own hands from doing wrong.
the liberated mind is a free mind. liberation means the ability to look in any direction. to NOT be stuck at one particular spot. to not have a ISM.
a liberated mind IS a free mind. it means just what it means. nothing more. nothing less. |

No, it's not. Both are merely concepts, dependent-arisings, products of mind. A liberated mind is its true nature, no need to 'Bind' anything.
To paraphrase Nagajuna:
Where there is Long, there has to be short. They do not exist through their own nature.

Eyes in place of an eye:
To paraphrase Jesus, the kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed sowed in the field - it isn't here, it isn't there. Choose one, serve two.
To paraphrase the Upanishad, as far as awareness extends, so far extends heaven where there is no fear, no hunger or thirst and beyond all grief.
To paraphrase Tagore, nirvana is not absorption but immersion.
And remember: a nod's as good as a wink in the kingdom of the blind.

Our perceptions are exactly that, our perceptions. What we don't like in others, we like least in ourselves. Reflection. It helps us know what we still need to work on.
Perhaps however, if we're open and mindful enough, these perceptions can also help us learn as much, if not more, about ourselves, rather than of the objects of their supposed focus.

Hi All,
Got this dharma brother who travel round the world to meet fellow practioners, meet monks and gurus. Now in Hongkong. One day, he came to see one master who told him to go to India and meditate under the Bodhi Tree. He came back and tell me that he is an enligtened being. He is free as a bird and I cannot be like him. There is no right and no wrong and his favourite phrase was the is no good day and no bad day. As I am not him, he is not Me. And this is what I gave him before leaving Singapore, claiming he understood the Heart Sutra.
Heart sutra, a great wondrous mantra you chant without grasping?
Each and everyone of us has their karmic destiny in life to fulfill
No point thinking of attainment when there isn’t any realization
Give-up no good and no bad day, have no attachment to them all
All self-identity is an illusion, to know oneself, is to know not
I, there is no me and there is no you, free from erroneous thinking
Kill these six faculties of eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind
Space that is empty inside the bowl is useful than having a full bowl
Only live what you have and you must also live what you don’t have
Open your mind and you find nature, a great teacher of the dharma
Non attachment to existence, no wisdom, emptiness and attainment

Not easy to be funny. Mood sucks, xmas sucks. Have little time celebrating. Running on empty. My xmas wish is to be let alone from family, salesmen, government, the lot. Just me alone, watching some film, going over papers, getting work done, settling my finances.
Not having to put myself deeper into micery by buying crap I cant afford. And then putting up a fake smile reciving crap I absolutly do not want.
Yeah, I suck. Sorry. I am still considered asshole and selfish for not having time nor energy celebreating my birthday :/
Fuck this time of year, I don`t need it, not now. So a merry fucking xmas too you too! ^=( " .........

Who Am I
Keep on asking yourself, Who am I is important
Grasping when totally cut off then I will know Who am I
Look closely at highlighted words from the top to the bottom.

oh! so wonderful... the question of who it is when spoken to..sometime I cannot know you and sometime not me and he spoke of bringing water to the top of the mountain and making tea..pointing out side the store saying "there are no mountains here!" and continuing a conversation thought left behind... and when I wrote of this ... the store name I misspelled as "chiong"s" instead of "chong's".... I really don't know what to make of it....beautiful " .........really, very good : ) " ......... |

Quoted:
What are the hallmarks of an illumined man?
He knows bliss in the Atman and wants nothing else.
Cravings torment the heart, he renounces cravings.
Not shaken by adversity, not hankering after happiness
Free from fear, free from anger, free from the things of desire.
He is lucky and does not rejoice.
He is unlucky and does not weep.
The tortoise can draw in his legs:
the seer can draw in his senses.
I call him illumined.
The abstinent run away from what they desire
but they carry their desires with them.
When a man enters reality, he leaves his desires behind him.
The wandering winds of the senses cast men’s minds adrift.
When a man cans still the senses, I call him illumined.
The recollected mind is awake in the knowledge of the Atman.
The ignorant are awake in their sense life which they think is daylight.
To the seer it is darkness.
