One day, Chang-sha Ching-tsen (d. 868), one of the well-known Chinese Ch'an masters, wandered in the mountain. When he was back just at the gate of the temple, the head monk asked him:

A state of inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, attitudes; a perception of incompatibility between two or more cognitions which sets up a mental resistance to information that you do not want to think about, creating and supporting mental and bodily tension - erroneously believed to be zen - this is not zen, this is zenguide, where if you learn, or believe you are unlearning, to behave in a particular way, your beliefs, as you search for the consonant cognition, will change in order to conform with your behaviour.
