Yamaoka Tesshu, as a young student of Zen, visited one
master after another. He called upon Dokuon of Shokoku.

Desiring to show his attainment, he said: "The mind,

→→→→ vertical line TOPIC: ON BEING BIPOLAR.
vertical line Posted on Sep.18.2008 @ 10:43AM EDT by shayne

being bipolar.

a physical manifestion that affects me mentally.

dont pay attention to the physical highs and lows of this very real and very physical illness.

to follow the low one becomes depressed.

to follow the high one becomes elated.

heed it no mind. itll pass.

biploar is also a physical reaction to ones own mind.

do not follow.

i will NOT asthetically climb to reach god.

for god is that which points to nothing.

the normal everyday wholeness each being has.

i will not fall into a stupor and contemplete wholeness or attach to it.

the mind is the guiding light.

focus now.

i arise as shayne.

i embrace the ego of myself.

not any other form.

i take confidance in myself.

for shayne is the man.

the informations i have derived are from the essence of the source of the world.

wisdom is seeing things as they arise.

now thats confidance.

not an ego.

not a superego.

and theirs NOTHING wrong with taking pride in ones self.

for it has been MY mind that has seen the truth of these things.

not anothers.

and not read in no book.

and.

guatama and jesus and muhmeed are my equals.

sorry don.

this takes the form of the understanding of opening up of ones mind.

all men are created equal.

it just takes the vision to see it and guide it to them.

i am nothing save a humble servant of the vastness of the reality of suchness.

my eyes are afire with the blaze and glory of life.

NOT the ego boosting that might be misinterpreted.

I've know many people with Bi-Polar disorder, friends, clients, colleagues, relatives.

In terms of what we are doing as monks, meditating, on the path of self discovery, I don't think it matters.  The self is the same for all of us, only our relationship with it varies from one to another, depending on our own buddha nature and our meditation.

But if you think you are right and others are wrong, rather than just different, that is the real problem.

We are supposed to be different, or the self would be very bored in creating us.

Hitler would have euthanized you for being Bi-Polar.

Good for you for taking your medicine.  A friend told me why he keeps going off of his.  He said, "When I take my medicine everyone likes me, but I don't like myself.  When I go off my medication no one likes me, but I like myself.  Its like getting high.  I feel superhuman when I go off my medication."

Sorry, but due to my training and experience in disability case-work, I saw 'concrete thinking' in your posts long before the men in white coats captured you with the butterfly net.

But I liked you, Shayne, even before you went on meds.  And I still do.

Being Bi Polar is just a condition.  It is characterized by periods of elation (manic phase) and melancholy (depressed phase).

One notable character of the Bi Polar condition is Ted Turner, founder of CNN, TBS, and other cable television networks.  He has used the manic phases of his condition to amass a fortune of $2 billion, not counting the $1 billion he donated to the UN.  During the melancholic phases he just ducks out of sight and hides away.

Also I was mistaken when I said a good memory is characteristed of Bi Polar condition.  That's actually Schizophrenia, so its good that you don't have that, Shayne.

But everything has its advantages and disadvanteges.  Whatever the case, its best to maximize your advantages and minimize your disadvantages, without taking either of them personally.

In terms of what we are doing here, nothing should matter to a Zen Monk except practice (Zazen).  As long as you can do that it will help with everything else.

My own condition is Dysthemic Disorder, a childhood condition characterized by mild depression.  75% of cases of Dysthemic Disorder progress to become Major Depression.  I believe that the reason mine has not is that I have been practicing meditation, in one form or another, since about the age of 12.

I cant find one moment within reality that is not experiental.

Whatever you want to call your experience does not really matter, but I am referring to the package, the depression and the joy, the whole thing as one.

Call it a horse, and you the rider.

You can love that horse and ride it too much. You can hate that horse and ride it too much.

You can hate that horse whilst believing that that horse is the only one you have, or you might love that horse but not ride it any more.

For any of this to come to mind you must realize that you are the rider. Choose a new horse for a new ride, a new experience. BUT DO NOT OVERATTACH.

Truth be known you are the rider and the horse. Become the surfer and the boogy board instead.

Change your role in this acting career called reality. BUT DONT OVERATTACH.

Being a junkie, overusing experiences is detri-mental.
