Once upon a time, there were a father and a son of a family in a busy city. The father was a very skillful thief in the city. He was getting older and older and worried about his son, who was still rather young and knew nothing about his... continue...

→→→→ vertical line TOPIC: EGO.
vertical line Posted on Sep.23.2008 @ 11:31PM EDT by shayne

ego.

the idea of ones self.

now this is just to say it is a reflection on the self.

knowing yourself.

hence ego.

the idea you have of yourself.

not a thing to be destoyed.

but embraced and a TRUE reflection of ones self is needed.

an honest reflection.

Talk about ego or not talk about it.

For me it is contrast.

It is self consciousness.

Reality stands alone because non reality is not there. Therefore it has no contrast, nothing to define it by.

It is instead its own contrast, hence the you and the me. This is then the paradox.

It is its own contrast as well as one thing.

We are all one thing as well as ourselves.

How could you be yourself without ego.

Ego is then you as the contrast. Which you know.

Ego is not a dirty word.

A song by Skyhooks. A great Australian band.

I do agree that it is wasted effort to try to destroy one's ego.  One should learn to use it like any other part of one's body, arms, legs, whatever.  You wouldn't have it if you didn't need it.

In a fable, it was said that the mind and the rear-end had a fight to see which was boss.

The mind was able to contemplate high ideals, and seemed sure to win.

The rear-end simply stopped working, and after a few days the mind surrendered.

That is why the boss is usually such a 'rear-end'.

The ego is like the rear-end in this story.  It thinks its the boss, and its probably best to let it think that it is the boss.

vertical line what is an idea of yourself, can any "idea you have of yourself' really adaqueately describe yourself? If you are comparing your ego to the rear end, then I have not met anyone who has embraced their rear end for what it does!! it does what it does, no need to make it sound more important than it is.

vertical line This might sound rather silly but I sensed my ego as a wayward child, always wanting, always demanding. This was probably a reflection of the self at the time. I worked to ignoring it. When that didn‘t work, I tried bribery. In the end it was negotiation and compromise that worked. Sounds funny I know, but sometimes the end justifies the means.

This all sounds like the ego is something seperate to ones self.

I feel that many confuse ego for who knows what!!!???

You are ego. No seperation. No difference at all. You and ego are one. Hence YOU.

The voice that you hear is -Mind, you, and ego.

Let me know when you can seperate yourself from that voice?

Go as hard as you want. Get whoever to go as hard as they want. Whilst they 'ARE', they are EGO.  THAT IS ALL.

In the paradox you are ego as much as you are not. Infinately.

So say what you like.

All talk about ego as though it is something seperate from you is a display of ignorance.

Forget the translation made by whoever about the ego.

Feel your self. Know what ego is. Your own revelation is needed.

The ancients are dead. They took their knowledge and their ignorance with them.

I can separate myself from 'that voice', anytime, easy.

And that is exacly what I do when I don't like where my internal dialogue is taking me.  I just shut it off.  later it comes back, on a different track.  And that's okay.

I don't devote myself to keeping it shut off as I used to do.  I think it is part of my buddha nature, so let it be.  I only shut if off when I don't like it.  That's my buddha nature too.  Its sort of like hitting the 'mute' button during commercials.

Like Muga said, "It is good for the mind to have thoughts, but not for thoughts to have the mind."

vertical line It may not be a separate thing but it can be treated like it is, especially if it is misbehaving and causing me embarrassment. I smother it!

When one thinks this or that about the ego, who and what is doing that thinking?

Who and what is having that opinion about the ego?
