Yamaoka Tesshu, as a young student of Zen, visited one
master after another. He called upon Dokuon of Shokoku.

Desiring to show his attainment, he said: "The mind,
Buddha, and sentient beings, after all, do not exist.

→→→→ vertical line TOPIC: LIFE AFTER DEATH -
vertical line Posted on Oct.01.2008 @ 06:35AM EDT by Bluerose
Life after death - Are the leaves growing on a tree the same leaves that grew on the tree last year? They look the same, they feel the same but they are not the same. But they grow on the tree with all the 'tree knowledge' hidden within it, just as last years leaves grew on the tree with all the 'tree knowledge' hidden within it. The old leaves wither and die but the new leaves have everything in them that the old leaves had. Am I getting warmer?

How many faces does 'is' wear?

How many faces can 'is' wear?

Paradoxically, how many 'is's' are there?

In this paradox!!!

Zen is often too profound for words.

.................therefore, one often uses profound phrases in an attempt...................

Very refreshing.

The tree of life is doing fine.  That's what matters.  Not we leaves that come and go.

When first they fall, they make a blanket to keep the roots warm through the winter.

Then with the rain they become fertilizer to nourish the tree for future growth.

And these nutrients travel through the tree to feed new life, new leaves.  And the cycle begins again.

Am I getting warmer?

From my understanding. Not whatsoever.

Life after death????????

Life and death are the one thing. Not two.

Not a thing is two things.

This is the paradox of no-thing-ness.
