DID YOU KNOW?

Greenhouse Gases

According to the United Nations raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined

Energy

Raising animals for food requires almost one-third of all fossil fuels used in South Africa. Producing a single hamburger uses enough fossil fuel to drive a small car 32 kilometres and enough water for 17 showers.

Pollution

In addition to the pollution generated by fossil fuel consumption, animals raised for food produce 80 million tonnes of excrement each year. This excrement, swimming with parasites, antibiotics and pesticides, befouls our air, pollutes our water and destroys our topsoil.

Land

Twenty times more land is required to feed a meat-eater than to feed a vegan (pure vegetarian).

Water

Raising animals for food consumes more than half of all the water used in the world. It takes 11,365 litres of water to produce half a kilogram of meat but only 272 litres to produce half a kilogram of wheat.

Deforestation

Rain forests are being destroyed at a rate of 323,748 square kilometres per year to create space to raise animals for food. For every fast-food burger, 5 square metres of rain forest land must be razed.

Animals

You can't be concerned about the environment without caring about our fellow inhabitants - animals. They're made of flesh and blood, have complex social and psychological lives and feel pain, just as we do. More than 55 billion land-based animals are killed each year globally by the meat industry, and they're raised and killed in ways that would horrify any compassionate person. This figure does not include the billions of animals torn from the sea.

What you can Do to Stop Global Warming!

The most powerful step that we can take to avert global warming is to stop eating meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products.

vertical line Dairy Products Linked to Parkinson's Disease

A new study from the American Journal of Epidemiology shows that the consumption of dairy products is linked to an increased risk for Parkinson's disease. Researchers investigated the association between dairy products and risk among 388 men and women diagnosed with Parkinson's disease participating in the American Cancer Society's Cancer Prevention Study II. Results showed that as dairy product consumption increased, risk for Parkinson's also increased. Specifically, those who consumed the most dairy milk had a 70 percent greater risk for the disease.

Actually what I see as the most serious problem facing mankind is the population explosion.

According to the UN by 2050 there will be 9 billion people on Earth.  At present there are nearly 7 billion.  The scientific community generally agrees that the Earth's resources can support only 8 billion people.

So what are we going to do with an extra 1 billion people?  Will we even make it that far if the Earth can only support 8 billion.

Oddly, without Global Warming we don't stand a chance.  We need the room for more people.  And more airable land for farming to feed them.  Greenland hasn't been unfrozen for about 125 thousand years, but we need that land.  We may lose some coastline, but we need these new areas.

And we had better get ready for more war, because hungry people get irritable.

.........

The English word 'compassion' derives from the Latin words which translate as 'suffer' & 'with'.

Compassion is a serving of universe by universe - the response to the suffering of another [in/of and by universe] - a total action of intent to alleviate the suffering of another or bring to an end the suffering of another, that is universe.

Thank you.

That's most probably because you live in a house or a flat or an apartment or . . .with taps or faucets or . . . that you just turn on and off when you want some water.

vertical line Now, actually I live in a little village near the coast of Norway. Every morning I have to walk 5 miles to the sea, fighting man eating polar bears and vicious penguins  on the way, then I chop a hole in the ice using my bare hands and teeth and extract some seawater which is carried to the center of the village where our local shaman boils it trough an elaborate system of tubes, extracting the valuable sea salt for use on our breakfast. The leftover co2 from this proses is added rotten berries and sugar and then turned into a drinkable liquid, perfectly suited for human consumption.
