→→→→ vertical line TOPIC: TRANQUIL OR POLLUTED PERCEPTION?
vertical line Posted on Oct.25.2008 @ 03:53AM EDT by zen-zen
Preceded by perception are mental states,
For them is perception supreme,
From perception have they sprung.
If, with perception polluted, one speaks or acts,
Thence suffering follows
As a wheel the draught ox's foot.

Preceded by perception are mental states,
For them is perception supreme,
From perception have they sprung.
If, with tranquil perception, one speaks or acts,
Thence ease follows
As a shadow that never departs.

Aristotle's maxim was that Actuality must precede potentiality.

He argued that nothing could become anything unless it already possessed the same attributes.

His example was the rock of the sculpturer.  All of the potential statues that a sculpturer could carve from a rock are already in there, or would not be possible for him or her to extricate.

Caught up in perception.

Caught up in mental states.

Caught up.

Caught.

vertical line One must realise the true nature of perception-observation,
thus becoming master of it
instead of being it's slave.
Only then it can be abandoned.
