vertical line So we've come to the point where we've seen evil turn from fearsome enemy into a pink small thing in a brief moment.

This is the way with all concepts. Some concepts have a physical counterpart, some are abstract like evil. An apple is a concept and then there is an apple we can eat. The difference between the concept and the object is that the one who knows an apple is a disturbed soul whereas a person with an apple isn't hungry for long.

Apple, anyone?

vertical line ipconfig isn't gonna work. 192.168.*.* addresses are local (only valid within the [household] LAN/router network and do not represent an Internet accessible addresses).

You could've just asked the web. You might actually need to fiddle with your router settings (open ports/whatever) to get your Quake games to work. This probably isn't the best site, but it says you'll need to forward port 27910 in your router's config page to point to your Quake 2 computer (the 192.168.*.* computer) if you want to host games. (The router (or modem) itself is what is directly accessible from the Internet, and sometimes needs to know which computer on the local network should accept particular types of connection requests.)

Anyway, regarding the original topic, whatever happened to "The rat does not steal and the cat does not murder"?

Hitler was ambitious. I think that is a trait that is usually well-regarded.

Don't think it's a Firewall thing, but turning it off is a good idea when you're trying to get things working. The IP-address you posted was assigned locally - probably by a router. I'm not sure about Quake 2, but you may be able to join games without changing configurations. As far as I know, Quake is built to "listen" on that port I mentioned, but this will only work for computers on the local intranet. You need to tell your router to listen (over the Internet) on that port and forward all connection requests to the computer (the IP address) you want to host Quake games on. I don't think Quake will do this for you automatically.

I am Hitler reborn. I'm not really out to save the whales, or the chickens. Mmmm, chicken.

Dunno.

Poor Hitler. Looking outside himself for fulfillment. Maybe, we all need something? But if that's the case, he's a marvellously good example of living life "to the fullest". It's good (for him) that he was unknowningly a patron of Zen and got over some of his conceptions of evil, ...etc.

vertical line But again, it gets back to us, and how we project evil outward, as being in someone else, as ugly, bad, and ourselves as being the opposite. If we project evil on any other we can be sure that it comes from us also. So guilt is a factor, blame is another. Empathy gets us beyond the trap of projection. Nature itself has no evil in it, therefore nor do we, if we get back to innocence, before the fall. It's a continual, lifelong process of getting back the truth, or true nature.

Yes, I agree that it is a good first step when encountering unpleasant situations.

If you can see how you are personalizing it then that gives you a starting point to restoring your own sense of balance.

Like when untying a knot.  The sooner you take control of the end of the rope and begin working it backward through the knot the sooner it is untied.

From a standpoint of Buddhism, it is as it is, and we are as we are because of that.  So are other people, and things, equally so.

It is easier to adapt than to overcome.

I have often said that anger is the child of fear.  Whenever I find myself angry I ask myself what I am afraid of.  Deal with the fear and the anger goes away.

And you would say that fear is the child of evil.  So maybe next time I will also ask myself what evil is giving rise to the fear that is generating anger.

That might help to move things along a little faster.

Quote: "Evil is related to fear, if not one and the same, so we project upon another our fear, and call it evil, then banish it away, as a people even. Evil is insidiously innate, but it becomes less intense being called more specifically fear, as that can then be dealt with, eventually, if we have the eyes to see. Even consider the eyes of evil... what is that? Red, jaundiced, sickly, dying? Evil is the fear that is beyond our grasp, and that has become a source of shame also. "
.........

"

I love anger. It's a ticket for aggression. Very empowering.

By itself, fear is evil, merely because it's self-defeating (leads to avoidance).

Are all fears are caused by delusion ("evil"/self-defeating and false knowledge)?
