last night I had to drive out to my grandparents house to drop off some medication for grandpa--he's losing his memory and the majority of the family is having a hard time dealing with it
it's a 40 minute drive and it seemed like everything slowed down--
a non-directional free fall through colors and sensations sustained by an unimaginable amount of particles
(and the particles of course, i have no way of experiencing for myself--the idea of particles is itself part of the non-directional free fall)
Mother-in-law has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's and had to move out of her home some months ago. A couple of days ago she was re-admitted to hospital after falling down the stairs and breaking her hip. We visited yesterday not long after she had been operated on. We don't know what the prognosis is.
The most important issues for injuries in the elderly is to get them breathing enough to clear secretions, and routine repositioning to avoid skin breakdown. Can't stress enough the value of family interaction and engagement. Slow steady supportive progress.
