A friend of mine became a priest.
On his first day in the monastery he went to breakfast and the monk next to him was very obliging. He filled his cup and served his food, taking nothing for himself.
The same thing occured at every meal for a couple of days. Then he found a note tacked to his door asking that he look at page 8 of the handbook.
Next to the instructions pertaining to the vow of silence was a passage saying that a monk cannot partake of food or drink unless it is offered to him by another monk.
