vertical line Posted on Jan.17.2009 @ 08:16AM EDT by immortal 1

Some of the people who post here are Buddhists on the path of understanding, and are trying to help one another.

Some of the people who post here are Non-Buddhists.  Many are just curious, or are attracted to the Buddhist idea of Nothingness because they believe in nothing.  However the Buddhist idea of Nothingness is really Anythingness, and not actually nothing perse, although that is one of the unlimited possibilities inherent in Nothingness.

And some of the people who post here are just Nuts.  Some are certifiable, and some are actually certified.  So while there is much good to be found here, be careful also.

vertical line Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
Old Mother Nature's recipes
That brings the bare necessities of life

Wherever I wander, wherever I roam
I couldn't be fonder of my big home
The bees are buzzin' in the tree
To make some honey just for me
When you look under the rocks and plants
And take a glance at the fancy ants
Then maybe try a few

The bare necessities of life will come to you
They'll come to you!

Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
That's why a bear can rest at ease
With just the bare necessities of life

Now when you pick a pawpaw
Or a prickly pear
And you prick a raw paw
Next time beware
Don't pick the prickly pear by the paw
When you pick a pear
Try to use the claw
But you don't need to use the claw
When you pick a pear of the big pawpaw
Have I given you a clue ?

The bare necessities of life will come to you
They'll come to you!

So just try and relax, yeah cool it
Fall apart in my backyard
'Cause let me tell you something little britches
If you act like that bee acts, uh uh
You're working too hard

And don't spend your time lookin' around
For something you want that can't be found
When you find out you can live without it
And go along not thinkin' about it
I'll tell you something true

The bare necessities of life will come to you

It is not that way or this way.

There is nothing to hang on to, not even nothing, or nothingness.

That is why it takes so long to prepare for Understanding.

What is Awakening like?

Its like sitting comfortably on an airliner, and then suddenly the window next to you falls out and you are sucked out into midair, killed for all intents and purposes, but not actually dead yet.

It happens in an instant, I suppose because an instant is enough.

After that you can accept things as it is, and do your best with it.

Spell it out for ya ?!?

Believe me, I have tried every way that I can think of to do just that.

But there are none so blind as those who will not see, and none so deaf as those who will not hear.

And you have good reason not to see or hear what I have tried to say.  Because it would, and or will, cost you everything you have, ever had, or ever would have had, whether tangible or intangible, in this life or any other, in this universe or any other.

It is smart not to be awakened.

vertical line to OP, you remind me of my first, and only zen teacher. who i stopped seeing and always had some inner distaste for.

whether i feel the wind, the wind feels me, or the wind feels me experiencing itself i don't freakin' care. Once you wrap it all up into this "beliefs" it's all nonsense to me anyway. buddhist, non-buddhist, and nut is ridiculous distinctions from people who don't even believe in a self.

Seriously, i'm supposed to pretend that my mind doesn't understand any complexity just because my ability to use language can't express the fullness of it. sometimes I think zen is just jerkin my damn chain.

i want the stupid lotus blossom enlightenment zen, with moutain streams that i saw on the book covers. instead i get to stare at my wall.

vertical line I have no idea -----0, I check my mail for the zen sweepstakes daily.

another thing that pisses me off about zen teachers and zen books, is they keep talking about enlightenment. Yet in everything, I find nothing. So even if there was some enlightenment, what good would it be 1 second after I experienced it? Just another postcard in my mind?

Or i'm supposed to believe these guys have reached a state where every moment is opening revelations of absolute dharma?

I think I sit zazen, just because i have absolutely nothing better to do

I very often know I am dreaming when I am dreaming.

I also talk in a foreign language when I am sleeping.  That was first noticed when I was 14, over 40 years ago.  Many have heard it since.

Those who have heard this say it sounds like an Asian language, but we have yet to record it to find out for sure what language it is.

People do not get it because they do not want to get it.  They cannot bear it.

There is only Buddha.  You are Buddha.  There is not anyone but you.  Alone.  All One.

Same goes for me, and everyone and everything else.  We are One.

You do not need to learn anything. There is nothing to learn.

Maybe you can remember yourself instead.  Then you will know who you are.

And even then it will take some getting used to.  Gangaji says that for a while after awakening we are like a fan that has been turned off but the blades are still turning.

After awhile it is not that you feel less alive, but rather that you are living in a world where everything is alive, because everything is the One Being, including you.

What do the Zen Masters say?  They say that it is better to live for one second and become awakened than to live a long life and not.

Still I do not dispute your Opinion.  It is your Buddha Nature after all.

So while there is much good to be found here, be careful also.

vertical line I think most everyone here is trying very hard to "be enlightened" or appear "enlightened." Speaking in symbolism and from a "formless" perspective only serves to confuse those that do not already understand what you are talking about. If anyone truly wanted to help spread understanding of the path to enlightenment, they would clarify their thoughts into more modern interpretations. Using the old Zen Master stories and examples clearly do not work. If they did, we would not need this forum because everyone would be enlightened.

I don't think "formless" is a "perspective". Interesting thought and perspective of yours, the implication that this forum is not "needed" by the "we" who are "enlightened".  I wouldn't know, or presume to know what the "we would not need" is- I just read and post here because I like so to read and post here.

Nobody can help you by explaining the non-explainable, neither is this forum meant for teaching. Occasionally some casual remark may trigger what you have been ready for anyway. And believe me, those old Masters are up to date.
