→→→→ vertical line TOPIC: QUESTIONS ABOUT BUDDHISM
vertical line Posted on Jan.27.2009 @ 08:35PM EDT by ehanson
Please answer thoroughly. This is a Bible project, however I am genuinely curious to understand what Buddhists believe. Thank you in advance!

1. How did we get here? (Origin) (How do you explain the existence of human beings on this planet? How do you explain the existence of the planet itself?)

2. Why are we here? (Purpose) (What are humans supposed to do with their lives? What is our purpose?)

3. How do we know what is true and what’s not? (Truth) (How do you verify the truth of a statement or claim? What sources do you seek for wisdom, knowledge and information?

4. Why is there evil? Good? (Morality) (How do you explain the existence of evil/good in the world? Where did it come from?)

5. How do we overcome evil? How can we be happy? (Is there a way to conquer the evil in the world? How can humanity improve and better itself? How can we achieve ultimate happiness?)

6. What happens when we die? (Destiny) (Is there an afterlife? What is it like? How does one get there?)

lots of questions and none i can answer.

to me.....we will always have these questions.

science answers some of them.

1. to me i dont know. theories of the big bang tend to be false.

2. we make purpose.

3. we lie. and it comes from a person.

4. people make evil.

5. by overcoming ourselves through meditation. by facing ourselves.

6. i just want this life and none other.

i seriously dont look for sources outside myself. i see myself and others doing acts of evil. and good. im just looking at reality as it stands. as it seems.

WHY do we need to have an evil being that created evil? when to me we just do it.

WHY do we need a seperate reality apart from this one? ( an afterlife). id rather be born again in this life. and even aspects of reincarnation are speculation to me.

to me.......what is is......what appears before us is reality.

ill deal with death as it comes. not before.

i accept what is regardless of what i want to believe.

any " prophet " any " buddhist " any " person " can tell you anything you WANT to hear.

we made it all up to me.

for the most part all religions are fabrications.

we look.

we name.

 THE REALIST

I know myself and all that exists to be the ONE thing.

There is only ONE reality.

Non-reality does not exist.

All is The Great Paradox.

This is the ONE thing, REALITY, standing alone, not in contrast to anything else.

It is THIS PARADOX, by BEING its own contrast.

As you see in ‘THE YOU’ and ‘THE ME’.

And this is what we see in the ONE REALITY.

I am reality.

I am that I am.

Nothing more.

Nothing less.

No truth or need in religious concepts, or a ‘belief’ in a god.

Reality knows no death.

                              No-thing-ness.

Hello ehansen,

my suggestion to you is that you might do a little reading.

You may discover  Zen to be nothing like Buddhism.

I suggest two books. One is 'The Awakening Of Zen', and the other is 'The Zen Doctrine Of No Mind'. Both are written by D.T.Suzuki.

So if you want to really know about Zen, you never will. If you want to know Zen, you will have to have your very own experience.

Hope that you and your questions dissapear!

Hello again Ehanson.

What is the relationship between faith and reality?

Who made God?

What are you?

How is it that all that exists within reality is impermanent yet reality itself is always there in its self?

What is the separation between you and reality?

If god existed and was real would god then not be impermanent like all that exists and all that is real?

What is the difference between faith and truth?

vertical line It all started with a big bang, or sound, like the letter O.
I'm here to learn to let go of suffering, that I create.
One person's truth is another's lie.
Duality is the core of delusion... us/them, me/you, good/evil. Interconnection blurs the edges until reality becomes more dreamlike, less rigid and dogmatic. Life is a dream we wake up from.

We don't conquer evil, killing is a savage addiction, as is alcohol, vanity, laziness, materialism, and power. We see through the separation between us and them, and find more in common than not.

We die daily, go to sleep and die to the past, wake up and die to the dream. We are all one, from one source, beginning, no end in death, eternal. At our core we are good, evil is the separation from the truth of unity consciousness... it's there, in our playfulness, like our child. Fear is delusion based, control, aggression.

ehanson,

Zen does not deal with such questions. It puts them all into one bag of man-made concepts. Your questions are based on meanings that depend on social conventions. They are a nice toy for your brain and a convenient topic for endless discussions, but apart from that they have no deeper truth.

Zen asks you: what is before those concepts? It does not give the answer in words. The answer is in experience, here and now. Buddhists believe that everyone has the capacity to see this answer.

Hi ,

Please answer thoroughly. This is a Bible project, however I am genuinely curious to understand what Buddhists believe. Thank you in advance!

My understanding of the Bible is that it was written by disciples who were less educated and readers tend to interpret according to their own level of knowledge and understanding. It amount to putting words into the mouth of God. You can say men inspired by God to write the Bible.  So there you have it, so much confusion and denomination each claiming that theirs is right and anti Christ.

1. How did we get here? (Origin) (How do you explain the existence of human beings on this planet? How do you explain the existence of the planet itself?)

For the Christian, it is Adam and Eve as stated in Genesis but Buddhist say it is from dependant origination. All men are born brothers but not all brothers are men. We created our own heaven and hell. No one has the answer. The Buddha never answers to metaphysical questions. He who have eyes can see the sickening sight, why didn’t the Almighty set his creatures right? Final answer: Don’t Know.

2. Why are we here? (Purpose) (What are humans supposed to do with their lives? What is our purpose?)

Those who do not remember history are condemned to repeat it. Buddhist calls it rebirth or reincarnation so that is why we are here. We are told, in 553, reincarnation or rebirth was voted out at the council held in Constantinople. Rebirth is clearly implied in Luke 7:27, Matthew 11:11-14, Matthew 16:13/14 and elsewhere.”…Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God” John 3:3. “The kingdom of God is within you. Luke 17:21. Buddhist believes in Karma, causes and effects.

3. How do we know what is true and what’s not? (Truth) (How do you verify the truth of a statement or claim? What sources do you seek for wisdom, knowledge and information?

It is all rooted in delusion and ignorance. Some are born blind and there is other who has little dust in their eyes. Buddhist learns about the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path. Meditation is about battling the mind and getting rid of our ignorance and delusion. “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make your free”. John 8:32.

4. Why is there evil? Good? (Morality) (How do you explain the existence of evil/good in the world? Where did it come from?)

Satan was once an angel, so too he was created by God. What you sow you shall reap. Get rid of “I” notion.

5. How do we overcome evil? How can we be happy? (Is there a way to conquer the evil in the world? How can humanity improve and better itself? How can we achieve ultimate happiness?)

Practice mindfulness and have an awareness of what you are doing. Let your consciences be the best of your guide. Don’t worry be happy.

Matt 26:41 “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak”. It is about awareness in Buddhist teachings.

6. What happens when we die? (Destiny) (Is there an afterlife? What is it like? How does one get there?)

People have fear because you don’t know where you are going. So Heaven and hell was created by human to allay their fears of the unknown. Judgment Day no longer frighten human beings.

Buddha taught No more Rebirth. End of cyclic existence.

This Bible project will help you understand what Buddhist believes.  No need not change faith.

Living Truth is here and now.

Mr  O have rightly answer your questions.

May I be Forgiven for speaking out

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Understanding Buddhism, Gary Gach

"Don't believe a teaching just because you heard it from a man who's supposed to be holy, or because it's contained in a book supposed to be holy, or because all your friends and neighbors believe it. But whatever you've observed and analyzed yourself and found to be reasonable and good, then accept that and put into practice."

Buddha is the Buddhist word for God, or from a Christian point of view The Holy Spirit.  It is the idea also of non-dualism, that all is one, because in the beginning there was only God, and therefore all that God has created is out of itself and is part of itself.

Gender does not apply, nor any description or form, since that which can be anything is nothing in particular.

Buddha is also the word used for those who have become awakened, which is to say they have become aware of being Buddha, which of course we all are.

Dual view:  It is all just something to do until you die.

Non-dual view:  It is all just something to do.

Summation:  Nothing matters.

How do you know?  You do not know.  You just go with your beliefs, based on your own experiences, whatever they are.  Trust what you are shown in your own meditation, rather than what you read or hear.  If you have a question, repeat it over and over again, like a mantra, in your meditation and an answer may come to you.

One of the greatest hurdles is to accept that God, The Holy Spirit, or whatever you want to call it, The One and only only One, is the creator of all things Good and Evil alike.  Creator of the Sun and the Rain, that shine and fall on all alike.

God is the creator of the Devil, and to defeat him needs only to stop creating him.  I can assure you that the Devil knows that.

God has no enemies.  Only characters in the play which it has written, produced, and is directing.  None can prevail against God.  None could even try unless God wrote it into the play.  Like they say, "If it aint on the page, it aint on the stage."

But, just because you are a character in the play does not mean that you cannot enjoy the show.

This is what we already are. Yes. My name is Mr.Paradox.

So, where are you gonna go???

Tell me what escapes being???

When you give up the non-sensical desire to escape being because of the unnecessary human addiction to suffering then you might free yourself from that fire.

Reality cant escape reality.

Reality is paradox.

Reality is, and is not.

As Neil Young said, hey its good to be back home again.

You live in the shadows which appear to be never ending.

You reach out with your hand and turn on the light.

You better hope that the light globe dont blow.

But, if it does blow I suppose to can always ask god to create a new one for you.

When one knows oneself, what is happening around is just happening.

Things are seen as they are, and there is no longer a desire to escape

but to transform and have a better  understanding of the Self and how

the mind is being conditioned. Mind make up Truth which is just an idea.

Don't know where self go until thoughts ceases  to exist. (passing away)?
