→→→→ vertical line TOPIC: SUFFERING
vertical line Posted on Feb.25.2009 @ 06:30AM EDT by IZIZIZ

Driving my ute along a country road, finished working, hot day.

The sun is belting down on the right hand side of my face and my left arm thats resting on the window opening. I can feel it burning. Its damn hot and uncomfortable.

I dont have air-con or tinted windows in the ute, just equipment and alot of paint.

When buddhists talk about suffering and why it seems to exist as a human condition, would the above situation fall into that catagory?

Opinions and views would be much appreciated.

I wish you people down south would quit hogging all the Global Warming.  We could use some of it up here in the Pacific Northwest of North America.

It usually only pokes up into the 70s in July and August.  If it gets higher than 80 that is a heat wave.

No humidity to speak of either.  Now I know you are jealous.

I do not agree with a Monk setting himself on fire for political reasons.  But it does show a great deal of self discipline.

To be.  Just to be.  Needing nothing, wanting nothing, being nothing.

That is a good example of how far that can be taken.

It is wanting that leads to needing.  We then need something to satisfy our wants.

It is needing that leads to suffering.  Unfulfilled needs result in unsatisfied wants, and that is suffering.

Life is only as hard as we make it.  Keep it simple.  Want less, need less, suffer less.

Two weeks ago we had a week of 44 degrees average. Bushfires have burnt much of the state of Victoria. As at today a number of fires are still going. Tomorrow 36 degrees.

How we convert temperature here to yours is: Temp x 2, plus 30.(approx)

Therefore 44 x 2 = 88, plus 30 = 118.

What do we understand that suffering to be?

What is suffering?

Thanks.  I live on the Canadian/US border.  City of Victoria BC is visible from where I live across the water.  And often, since we get stations from both countries here, the weather reports cite centigrade temps.

Now I will be able to easily convert that in my mind.

Mr. IZIZIZ,

It seems that you really want to know what suffering is, right?  Because you posted your question twice.

So just do this:

Find a big and hard rock, then butt your head really hard to the rock. With this action you will not only know, understand, comprehend what suffering is but also experience it yourself thoroughly.  And then you may not need to ask the question anymore.  ChonTri guarantees this.  Just do it yourself.

There is a difference between pain and suffering.

Some people may like to hit themselves or have someone else inflict pain on them because they enjoy the pain.

Where is the suffering there??

So, what is suffering?

What was the suffering that the buddha set out to investigate why it existed?

So, I may ask, suffering in what sense?

I hope that this question doesnt make people think too much because they might suffer from a headache.

And, if you like being painfull and make people suffer by giving them a headache, dont try and answer this question.

Just butt your head to a rock, then you will not only sense pain but also sense suffering in the sense you're thinking about.

It's only you are the one who got headache because you have been trying to ask the question many times and expecting the answer that you cannot find it yourself.

If I did this thing that you have been nice enough to suggest Mr Tri, would this suggest that a person can experience suffering through conscious choice?

But say I didnt take up your nice suggestion and instead I went for a walk to clear my head after thinking too much about your suggestion, and I tripped and hit my head on a rock. Would this suggest that a person can experience suffering through unconscious choice?

I do not know a moment without choice.

Is choice the culprit?

If choice is the culprit, what is the name of that of that actual choice?

What is the experience of that choice?

Without pain your body does not know what needs to be healed.
Your limbs begin to rot and your sores do not heal.

Pain is necessary.
