Buddha said it was a test to see who could tell his focal point was the white lotus flower he was holding.
In order to do that one would need to attain and sustain inner silence until the answer came to him. A serving girl could have as easily done it as anyone else, and maybe did but just didnt tell anyone except her girlfriends.
Yet only one of his disciples was able to do that.
No doubt Shayne would have gotten it, eh Shayne ?
One day a boss of mine filled up a blackboard at work with an algebraic formula. He said it was a trick question that he remembered from college. The formula appeared to be correct, but it wasnt. Could any of us spot the error, he asked."
Out of about a dozen people, I was the only one who did. I found it in a few seconds, and pointed it out. But I didnt know why it was incorrect. Never was that good at math. I found it because I turned off my internal dialogue and *felt* it out. My boss was impressed. Of course, I didnt reveal my *secret*. |

On the way to work tonight, although all I could see was headlights, I *felt* that the car behind me was a cop.
My sense was confirmed when he hit his lights and pulled me over. I said I didn't know that I had violated any laws. He said that when I had passed a bicycle rider I had pulled over to the left enough to contact the double center line and that was reason enough to pull me over to see if I had been drinking.
I told him I had not, that I was on my way to work, and that I had simply given the bicycle rider a wide berth for safety reasons. We had a pleasant chat about the benefits of working nights, as he does too, while he checked *mein paperien*, and then I went on my merry way. |
