My Theory is that whatever was said before in Zen or Zen Buddhism .. it was said it accordance to what the audience or disciples was ready for ... according to their practice.
What good does it do to tell a novice that Zen is to become stupid? He may not be ready for this and then decide not to practice Zazen. What greater crime to another person can you commit then to deny them life?
What good does it do to tell a person to go kill the Buddha? When the understanding isn't there yet. O trying telling someone that Zen is not seeking Zen and not seeking Buddha. Did that set them on their way to awakening or even just to have a better life?
Teach according to the ability of ...
ahh, nvm, the feeling here is everyone thinks they have the answers ...
but the truth will come out.
