Forty years ago today I left home, got on a bus and went to Navy Boot Camp.
In a way, I feel like its my 40th birthday because I was finally on my own and life had begun. Four months later I reported to the Pentagon and my career began too.
20 years later I retired, took 3 years off, and have been semi-retired since.
At a reunion last week, someone told me she could not retire because she doesnt have any hobbies. My job is my hobby.
In 1990 I experienced awakening, and died. Life sure has been better since then.

These things were said by the Buddha to be the three marks of existence.

or just go on youtube.com and look for story and verse about the Bhikkhus.
You don't have to read everything. But, you should know some things.

A darvon? Google says it's another name for methadone, but I thought that was for treating drug addicts. You can get high off that? Or did the term use to mean something else?

I was an Air Force brat, but became interested in the Navy when living in San Diego. I was only 10 when I decided to join the Navy, about the time we escalled hostilities in Vietnam. Always thought I would go to Vietnam, but got sent to DC instead.
Some guys in Boot Camp came back from the dentist with Darvons, as pain killers, and passed them around. I thought they were pretty good. |
