One day a Vinaya master asked a Zen master:
-How should one practice Tao?
The Zen master replied:
-Eat when you are hungry, sleep when you are tired.
The Vinaya master said:
-Most people do that.
The Zen master... continue...

vertical line As far as I know, a state of mental preparedness.
Sort of like keeping the eyes unfocused on any one object or threat
so that one is prepared for any object or threat. Uses are mainly in the martial arts.
Keep the mind not focused but ready for any attack.

The mental state is not unlike certain meditative states.

Slight difference between not focused versus unfocused.
Not focused .. not fixated on one thing
Unfocused .. mental attention is scattered

But, whatever rocks your boat.
