TOPIC: DISCOVERY |

 |
Posted on Aug.31.2012 @ 04:46AM EDT by Avisitor
Thinking about this topic, I wasn't sure if I should post it. But, in coming to a conclusion, I had to have my say somewhere ... I'm sorry if this will offend anyone
It
is my true wish to see into my own true nature. and to discover the
truth of life and its meaning. I have gone on a few forums. Some good
and some bad. Recently signed up at this "feel good" forum. Well, I got
banned in 47 posts. Record even for me. Reasons are for post in topics
where the people who meditate would feel light pressures on their
foreheads. I posted something like "all those wonderful answers. When I
asked my teacher, he said it was a subconscious reflex action. To relax
and concentrate. I did and it eventually went away.". I even told one
guy who only wanted affirmations of his own theories of Buddhism to go
away. In his post, he seemed to believe that he knew more about Buddhism
than Buddha. So apparently, I was too blunt and made others (staff)
feel that I was not a member which they wanted around.
I had to
wonder. Was I wrong for expressing my opinions or what I believed to be
true. They had their feel good community. That was fine. But, for anyone
who was a true spiritual seeker, the crap just wouldn't end. I mean
beginners who started meditating would see color spots. Others would
post that it was a sign of their chakras lining up. I posted that if one
looks at bright lights and then closed the eyes, one would tend to see
spots. Then I read a post from the administrator saying another who had
itching while meditating should try freeing their mind like while
driving .. just get lost in the action. The big cheese was spreading the
biggest hogwash I ever heard. I didn't say anything. By that time I was
BANNED.
So, who cares and whatever?? What it meant to me is that
I'm on the right track to finding that which I have always looked for
... truth. I couldn't let myself be sway by a community setting just to
feel good about my practice. I know when something is right. They were
perpetuating a feel good community. Not a community of people who
actually wanted to be truly spiritual and find their way to the truth
about life and ones own true nature.
Okay, my apologies to anyone who I have offended. I'm sorry.

Quote: "Newbuddist.com, by any chance?" ......... I'm not here to knock other forums. This was about my search for the truth. Feel good crap is just that .. for feeling good. It isn't about taking a journey or the search for truth. So, I tried to explain how being rejected can be a sign to look further.
After all, Bodhidharma taught that the way to enter the gate is two fold. One being study and the other being practice. For understand without actualization is useless and realization without understanding is mindless.
Again, my apologies for being blunt and coarse.

I was banned from newbuddhist.com a couple of weeks ago.
The moderator 'Cloud' sent me a personal message saying that I did not realize how thin the ice was in which I traversed. I replied, "And now it's time for the ice to CRACK!!"
Man I crack myself up.

Well, I got no such warning. Just a "You have been banned. Time til ban is to be lifted: NEVER" That made me feel like "What the heck goes on? What did I do?" So, I looked at my posts. Most were innocent. I was trying to fit into their group. Then, their non sense got to me. I started telling one person to go away. And, others that their visuals were sun spots or subconscious reflex. Well, guess the staff didn't like me introducing common sense. They like to keep their beliefs of spiritual enhancements ... hahaha I can't say I blame them. After all, who wants to let the light in and ruin all the special effects???

It is my true wish to see into my own true nature. and to discover the truth of life and its meaning.
-------------------------------------------
At first, in awakening, I thought I had found the truth. As things progressed, I realized I had found *no truth*, and that nothingness is the foundation of anythingness and everythingness.
If you say you know, it surely means you dont. And if you insist that you know, thats a good way to get banned.
I think we are all on our own path, and we have to find our own truth, because that is the only One that will work for us individually.
Once youve reached *nothingness* where do you go from there ? That depends on the individual. One person said here that when he got to the top of the mountain he let out a yell that shook the universe. I can see that. When I reached that point, I took flight because there was nowhere else to go. I can see that too. Someone else might tunnel into the mountain, or slide down its side. Who knows ?
Prepare to be yourself, or your Self, and or both. Who knows ?
Your path is a journey of Self discovery, and of Self acceptance, that will ultimately allow you to accept yourself, the you you know as you. |

I really appreciate those words of encouragement. Maybe I was being a know it all ... expressing my opinions. But, I know that is what they are ... just opinions. No opportunity to argue or debate or discuss ... just banishment. Well, I will continue my search and I wish someday to be as kind as you were to me. Thanks again

What I said didn't mesh with their feel good community. They must have thought I was teaching or something. I don't teach. I debate. Topics there were silly. Like "saw lights while I meditate". I said sometimes if you stare at bright lights then you will see spots and colors. One guy there said he didn't believe Buddha knew other peoples understanding of Buddhism. So, I told him to go away cause he believed he knew more than Buddha about Buddhism. They really don't want people to express opinions that differs from their feel good theme. So, there really is no journey to awakening. It is just a bunch of people being self congratulating. I really needed a kick in the pants to move in a better direction.

Zenguide Forom has continually grown. I cant say it has improved, because Im not sure what would constitute that, but there are a lot more people here, and the topics are more diverse.
When I got here over 10 years ago, the regulars included Shayne, Woodsman, Joe Chip, Lehish, Chontri, maybe Boymonk, and some others I dont recall.
We had a big blowout when a guy named Steve announced that since he was a professional teacher in real life, he was taking over the forum and would direct the questions from then on. I left the forum for a while, over that, and when I looked back in later saw that Alan had stepped in and said this is a discussion forum, not a sanga, and there are no teachers here. We still run into that from time to time.
What is relevant to Buddhism, of course, are the teachings of the Buddha, and historical figures since then in Buddhism.
What is relevant to Zen, I dont know. What is not relevant to Zen, I dont know.
But I keep coming back, because Im killing time on the night shift, I like the people here, including those whom I have fought with, and because I find *nuggets* here that make my life better. |

I have been called worse things. So no biggie. Banishment means being excluded from your community However, I wasn't there long enough to make friends or whatever we do on the net?? Still a word of warning would have helped me understand. But, no doubt I am the one to blame for such outlandish behavior. Now, the beans are spilled and I have nothing to reflect upon. No apology or sorrow. Just having people call me weird names ... hahaha |

its a journey of Self discovery.
Doesnt matter what you think, or what others think of what you think.
A friend of mine says she told her mom some ot the stuff I told her, and her mom thinks Im a bonefide nutcase. I asked, *Doesnt your mom go to church every sunday?" She said yes she does. Then I said, "I think it is crazy to believe that God sacrificed his only son on a cross, like a pig on an altar, to pay for the sins of mankind."
It is good to take your own opinions, as well as those of others, with a grain of salt, maybe even a whole shaker of salt. Look back on the opinions you used to have that have been replaced when knowledge or belief rendered then obsolete. What will you think of the opinions you have now when they get to that point.
You cant be wrong until you arrive at a conclusion. And then its just a matter of time.... |
