TOPIC: LEARNING TO MEDITATE |
|
|
 |
Posted on Oct.03.2012 @ 05:15AM EDT by starduster
Learning to meditate is like learning to drive a car.
At first you are very careful about everything. Hands at 10 and 2 on the wheel. Seat adjusted just right, double checking the mirrors before taking off.
Later on you just get in the car and go. Next thing you know, youre steering with your knee while you balance a coke in one hand and a burger in the other, shifting gears with your elbow.
Or as Osho put it, *Eventually, your life just becomes a meditation.*
I dont stress over posture or anything else anymore. I can settle down into that comfortable place within in a moment or two, just about any time or any where. So even if I only have a few seconds to meditate that is enough time to work with.

The practice is realization ... that is what someone told me. I told him that is nice. And, when I went to a lecture, the person said that we do not have to seek enlightenment cause we are already enlightened. Damn, driving two hours in the rain just to hear this ....
I don't go to lectures anymore. Nor do I listen to wise old men who spout little sound bites of the past. I sit and practice ... there is nothing more that I want or need.

Thanks, I've tried some. They are quite bitter for those who aren't ready for them.

leave out the zen then, and just have a cookie.
mindfully
small bites, and make each small bite last for longer in your mouth,
same with zen, small sits

At first meditation was done on intentional purpose. Now it's became a spontaneous ritual.
Simply returning to the breath in breathing consciously. Letting everything be, happening itself.
And attentiveness; a mental attitude. Mindfulness is full minded witnessing.

Enlightenment is a characteristic. It can be developed and fulfilled. Some work at it as a piece of their character, some leave it alone. There is enlightenment. Its all good. |

Although at one time you are convinced you are enlightened..lol
I think if you conclude that if you practice you are enlightened it like if you bet in the lotto you are already a winner. ...lol
Practice and you are enlightened... cool.. it seems to me the attitude is just a lazy attitude...lol

Or because they want to convince themselves they are enlightened because they want a substitute for real enlightenment. |

'They' understand [enlightenment as an idea] at the level of their conditioning. |

Lately, my practice has turned into a sleep marathon. Constantly tipping to one side or the other. Catching myself falling. It has been a tough session.

When I started, I was in search of power. Now, all that is left is a man content to have a good practice. I sit every day. And, I enjoy the practice. I don't want anything and am not searching for anything. But, lately, I am tired and it has seeped into my sittings. Maybe it is a good thing. There is something more to do .. something more to experience.

Sitting is the lowest level of consciousness. After sitting, [nothing is.] That be the common sense of Zazen. |
