TOPIC: THE RIGHT THING TO DO |

Today a young friend of mine wrote me to ask advise. She's suffering because of many problems in her family. She's also infatuated with some guy in her school and getting trough all the "love pains". And almost every other aspect of her life is a mess. Well, it wasn't hard to notice the she's just lost and too attached to many things in her life. I tried to help her and understood that all of her problems are caused by simple misconception of EGO existence. What should one do in my place? Try to quote eight-fold path and sutras? It won't help. So how do you facilitate knowledge of Buddhism in real life examples. When you find someone who is suffering and needs help.

Don't try to explain anything. Meet with her one on one as a friend and offer some council and silent prayer. If she accepts she'll benefit. |

explain to her with examples, point out the unhappiness she will be able to notice in the world. In her close world of family and friends. and the reasons for this as explained by the buddha. (it is only the mention of buddha that will perplex people). the dharma explained as sensible logic is much more redily accepted.

A joke helped. I told her this one: "A man walks into a psychiatric clinic and says to the doctor: - I am very ill. - Why so? You seem fine to me,- answers the psychiatrist. - No doctor. I am very very ill. - So what is wrong with you then? - Do you see an angry hamster? The doctor then looks at the patient with a pity in his eyes and says silently: - No, no I don't. - Well, I don't see him either, but he exists. Explains the patient.
She started laughing uncontrollably. When she stopped I said: -You laughed without thinking "Oh I am laughing" or trying to laugh. You were just happy and enjoyed it. Now, when you drink tea, drink tea without thinking "Oh I'm drinking tea", when you love, don't try to love and finally live without thinking why and how.
The Hamster saves the day once again :) |

Without the right training ... those things ... when hungry , eat ... when laughing, laugh Doesn't change a thing. The wheels will turn again and the emotional roller coaster will begin again. Introducing the Buddha's truth is always what is needed. Try being her friend. That is what she needs from you.
