When a monk came to say good bye to Chao-chou Tsung-shen (778-897), a brilliant Chinese Ch'an master.
Chao-chou asked:
-Where will you go?
The monk answered:
-Any place where I can learn Buddha dharma.
Chao-chou stood... continue...

→→→→ vertical line TOPIC: DO YOU DESPISE WHAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND?
vertical line Posted on Oct.28.2012 @ 07:32PM EDT by leoj99
So you despise what you don't understand?
It seems most people do.

I despise only what I understand.
Like thinking. I have been there all my like thinking.
Thats the only reason I came into Zen practice.

In Zen practice for many years I ended up despising thinking.

What do you think? Your Zen practice does not teach you that?

Well in Zen its like just giving you a whack....lol

It is an impersonal thing.. why can't you despise a thought?
Does the thought gets hurt?

you have seriously missed the point, there is no 'you' to to have been anywhere for any amount of time. no time, no territory, no words, all mind created illusion. and with no self no familier.

so with no self what are u able to articulate?

can you tell this story without being in it yourself?

vertical line Any idea of self is illusion.  Being self is differant to thoughts of self (this is sometyhing you have been ttrying to explain ??)
When you say I have done this or i have dione that you error. Not because of the thing being done but by the idea of a self doing those things.

When you think of something you are that thought, there is no seperation between thought and thing. So it is better to be reality and not thoughts of reality. (which are created illusion)

This is why it is said, when hungry eat and when tired sleep nothing more is needed.

Reassess your values.

It all up to you, about you.  Whether a king on a throne, or in the castle dungeon.

Like in chess, it doesnt really matter how you got into the position youre in, good or bad.  Consider all of your options, from there, and make the best move you can think of.

Zen is a good move.  Brings about equanimity.  Clears the mind of prejudices.  Relaxes.

You are responsible for being the you that you want to be.

So, who is that ?
