One day a Vinaya master asked a Zen master:
-How should one practice Tao?
The Zen master replied:
-Eat when you are hungry, sleep when you are tired.
The Vinaya master said:
-Most people do that.
The Zen master... continue...

→→→→ vertical line TOPIC: IMPOSSIBLE TO BE ATTACHED TO ENLIGHTENMENT
vertical line Posted on Oct.30.2012 @ 11:35PM EDT by leoj99
I think it is impossible to be attached to enlightenment.

Why?

Because before enlightenment how can you be attached to something you don't know, something you have not experienced.
It is impossible to be attached to something that is unknown to you.

After enlightenment you in split seconds understand the secret of non-attachment so how could you be attached to your enlightenment.
If after enlightenment you are still attached you are not yet enlightened.

But the great  pitfall of many is that they are attached to their IDEAS of Enlightenment. Even if they claim they are not attached they cannot give away their ideas so directly or indirectly they have ideas that has to do with enlightenment.

attatched to the idea (created illusion) of enlightenment. Surely if it something real it will happen whether or not we actually think about it. (same as going to the toilet i do not need to think about it at all)

Of course you know, you have never not known.
you look here and there for this amazing enlightenment but it has always been right there.

How can you not know this if you are enlightened?

There are some here who do not believe enlightenment is possible in reality.

Maybe not.

But then, reality is not possible in enlightenment.

vertical line Nor is it possible, nor impossible. Nor is reality real or not real. Real and possible are predicates (figures of speech). Reality isn't words or ideas. So enlightenment can go in a perfect accordance with reality or nothingness. As in mathematics, zero vector is parallel to every other. Does it have a direction? No. Doesn't it? No. What is it's direction? One (of the vector in comparison) and yet every other ;) One and everything.

vertical line - I am optimistic. Profoundly optimistic.
- What are you optimistic about?
- Nothing.
- Nothing?
- Absolutely nothing.
- How can you be optimistic about nothing?
- Because I exist.

vertical line Give your complete appreciation to love. Everything you are grateful for from the outside in, to love. Then embrace the only real fact, impermanence. Perfectly Am.
