What, monks, is the world? The eye and shapes, the ear and sounds,
the nose and smells, the tongue and tastes, the body and tactile objects,
the mind and mental objects - these... continue...

→→→→ vertical line TOPIC: JOSHU'S ZEN
vertical line Posted on Nov.03.2012 @ 03:41AM EDT by leoj99
 41.   Joshu's Zen

Joshu began the study of Zen when he was sixty years old and continued until he was eighty, when he realized Zen.

He taught from the age of eighty until he was one hundred and twenty.

A student once asked him: "If I haven't anything in my mind, what shall I do?"

Joshu replied: "Throw it out."

"But if I haven't anything, how can I throw it out?" continued the questioner.

"Well," said Joshu, "then carry it out."

I use to drink coffee everyday at work.
Then for some reason, I just stopped.
Now if I drink coffee, I can feel the caffeine affect my nerves.
It makes me jittery. So, No, no thank you. No coffee for me, please.

I smoked for 27 years, and drank a lot of coffee to go with it.  They go together well.

But when I quit smoking I gradually lost my taste for coffee.  Now I take caffeine tablets one or twice a day, about 600 mg per dose, and that takes care of getting going.

The acid in coffee is too much for my stomach anymore, and Im finding I cant drink alcohol anymore either, so Ive switched to Red Bull, which is caffeine, sugar, and some B vitamins.

Whatever.  If I drink coffee or alcohol I end up feeding the plants on the way out to the car.

I've quit smoking too but for only seven years now ... since my child was born.
I don't take any drugs except for some acetomphenimin once in a while.
Pain is really not an illusion and can motivate people to do the strangest things.
Alcohol is good to me cause I drink very little if at all. It helps with the pain.

What seems unusual to me is that while I smoked marijuana for most of my life, I quit about 7 years ago.  I used to grow my own, and found it a rewarding hobby.  And now that I have sufficient disability, particularly neck and back conditions, that would warrant a prescription for medical marijuana, Im not really interested.

Thats irony for you.  I smoked marijuana even way back when it was a felony that would get you two years in prison for possession of any amount, and now that I can have it legally I dont want it.

Thats funny.

When younger, I had thought of going to someplace where it is legal to use maijuana.
Now, I just have no interest in it.
Maybe when I am much older and alone ...
