Experience power in witnessing.
"Develop the witness attitude and you will find in your own experience that detachment brings control. The state of witnessing is full of power, there is nothing passive about it." -I am that

Try that and see if that's the case.

The Zen concept of *dependent arising* is that every moment is new, since the past and future do not exist in tangible terms, so everything arises independently into existence in each moment, but in a manner necessarily dependent on everything else.
Imagine a movie projector. The top reel is the dormant future, and the bottom reel is the dormant past. The frames pass the light and lens at a rate of 80 per second, creating the illusion of motion.
What you actually witness are a series of still photographs projected into your consciousness at a rate of 80 per second. Digital is probably even more images than that.
Witnessing dependent arising is like that. Every *Now*, every *moment* of present time is a briefly passing picture in time. Each is unique and will never be repeated exactly, just like all the frames in a motion picture are different, slightly, unique. Each moment arises independently in its own time and turn, but dependent on everything else, in what appears to be a continuous unfolding of the universe.
It can be a beautiful thing to stop and watch the universe unfold around you, and within you. We do it all the time, watching a sunrise or sunset. Setting our cameras on tripods, focused on a flower, and then taking one frame every 30 seconds while the flower unfolds in the morning light. Then playing it back to see it unfold in a few seconds.

A documentary I recently watched on the History Channel had Martin Scorsese saying that 24 fps was the original, but that 80 fps had been the standard since talkies came out in the 30s.
I believe his exact words were, *Youre not watching a motion picture. You are seeing a series of still photographs projected onto a screen at a rate of 80 frames per second.*
Regardless the rate of fps, the metaphor is still the same. |

I am always watching, observing my way and my thinking. Whatsoever happens, happens. Thus comes and thus goes. Only everything being as it is. Be thou my meditation (God as my witness.) |
