One day, Chang-sha Ching-tsen (d. 868), one of the well-known Chinese Ch'an masters, wandered in the mountain. When he was back just at the gate of the temple, the head monk asked him:
-Where have you been, Sir?
A fish lives in the ocean. Upon being told he lives in the ocean, he becomes enlightened. He then tells others they are living in the ocean. But none believe him. Who is deluded and what does it mean??
At first I thought it was the world that had gone silent yet it was still making sound....it was the running commentary that was in my mind that had ceased. Technically there was no 'my mind'. It ended the way this statement began, " at first I thought...". So yes the mind can be quiet in the same way a child is quiet, it is just a matter of time before it makes a sound, for a moment it is clear as crystal.
