"But," asked Vaccha persistently, "when one who has this emancipation of mind (freed from self) dies, where does he go, where is he reborn?
The Buddha replied:
"The word 'reborn' does not fit the case."
"Then he is not reborn?"
I recently started a new job. It is very repetitive and doesn't require any thoughts. I worked 12 hour shift with barely any thoughts. Just doing it. I didn't get tired, nor annoyed or exited. I got some physical pain, but I didn't find it bad or good for that matter. This is a little glimpse of ever present enlightenment. So I agree with you. We are all enlightened, but only enlightened ones know it :)
I must add, that "conditional enlightenment" is not enough. You need to practice a lot to get unconditional enlightenment and apply it in every aspect of life (most importantly, to help others).
