One day when P'ang layman (740-808)was selling bamboo baskets at the market place of Hung-chou. Seeing a monk begging alms, he took out a cash and said:
-Can you tell me how to appreciate alms?
The monk had nothing to say.
I recently started a new job. It is very repetitive and doesn't require any thoughts. I worked 12 hour shift with barely any thoughts. Just doing it. I didn't get tired, nor annoyed or exited. I got some physical pain, but I didn't find it bad or good for that matter. This is a little glimpse of ever present enlightenment. So I agree with you. We are all enlightened, but only enlightened ones know it :)
I must add, that "conditional enlightenment" is not enough. You need to practice a lot to get unconditional enlightenment and apply it in every aspect of life (most importantly, to help others).
