Well if you are helping others when you cannot even help yourself it is obvious that you are harming them. Most people like to help others. Too eager to help others yet they cannot even help themselves. This is the irony of this world...lol |

That is the paradox of this world ... why does suffering exist? Cause it makes people search for the answer to suffering? So helping others while you can not help yourself is part of the paradox of human life. Also, helping others is only egotistic if you get something out of helping others One can help others out of compassion which is not egotistic

Beautiful sunny/snowy day around here. The moons have been bright the last couple of nights. Haven't had much going on for a week or so. I've been talking to my brother more because we are taking two online classes together. He live's out of state. I live quietly most days sometimes I'm by myself for a few hours. My attention is usually caught up in the computer I admit. But I accept the things I cannot change and rejoice in all I have and all I am. Life is good, my meditation is still working and that is enough for me now. |

Nope, all we do is "egoistic" if we like it or not.
Lemme try here, Technically, do all for yourself (no way to not do everything for/by yourself kinda. Nothing bad with a self feeling, that might burst up in you when reflecting on who you are after doing something with total focus on the task, maybe make some impossible murk minded person happy regardless what.
Feels good when self-aware of feeling good for people around, looking at a self-image one could fall in love with..
We all just want the same, me, those reading this, like you, you, ..mmmh. maybe not you then, but even al-Shaitaan and azura wants to feel good about themselves! (frequent posters ) We do not choose doing stuff that hurt unless it`s cool or might be on tv. Just Imagine being remembered as this awesome dud that threw himself in front of the bus saving your girlfriends mother. And she like, totally sorrow over you, her young hero that she shamefully was crude towards with characterisation like stupid, short-sighted, lazy sociopath, clumsy idiot, etc. And now she is visiting the grave everyday silently asking for forgiveness of how wrongly she tought of you and blatantly unaware that she survived what really was a very clumsy ill prepared kill attempt. And, eh, where was.. Oh, rambling about self-feeling / happiness, cant see there is point to this paragraph so moving on..
Do whatever, just do your best and never forget you are doing whatever really to feel good about yourself one way or another, if one base this self feeling on other peoples flimsy impression the Ego quickly becomes a full time crazy job.
(Hmmm, if I do a little cleanup of this txt, short down, and finish this with something mystical, maybe something witty and cryptic yet humble enough to mask my arrogance this could be readable, hmm, much bother, better just dump it as is, after all probable just 1 sociopath at zen-guide bother reading , maybe 2 , so G`night :))

Yeah if you help others even if you cannot help yourself makes you feel important. You think your image becomes more polished and good looking. That is the main incentive of helping others. You feel good and smiling by yourself. |

The truth is that you know what I say is rings true. Your ego just can not stand anyone else knowing more than you. It is too bad that you can not set it aside and be my friend ... to bring each other up.

I think it is plain egoistic to help other when you cannot even help yourself. So what help can give. You are only adding more confusion. How can a confused person make someone unconfused. Impossible, isn't it. The best thing to do is just concentrating on helping yourself.

Unlike Christianity which engages in ministry right away, it is true. There is a danger in helping others before you have helped yourself. The danger is that we will do so from the perspective of our own frame of reference. If you have engaged the non-discriminatory practice, you can then set in motion events of cause and effect without being attached to outcome. And if you find yourself caught in the defence of a particular stance, you can stand back into practice to determine if you are attached or not. It is the vow of a Bodhisatva to alleviate the suffering of all beings.

Quote: "Didn't you notice that almost everyone wants to help others. I think it only adds to the confusion and suffering. Look at what is happening in this world with all the good intent of helping others. When will people learn and realize...lol

But the world is itself confusion and suffering. Would inaction make the world a better place? Maybe. Maybe if everyone was actively inactive, if everyone saw to chopping their own wood and hauling their own water the world would be perfect.
But I don't believe so. This is the world. And the world is not fair and the world is not equitable.
Sometimes the wood is simply not there to chop or the water there to draw. Someplaces the ewe will not lamb, someplaces the cotton will not sprout.
What cost is it to the water bearers and the wool shearers to walk a little out of their way to deposit their plenty to supplement another's few?
Can this be ego centric? Perhaps. It is a good point. Giving does feel good. So does sitting on the beach under a warm sun or feeling the cool air during a brief winter snow. Perhaps these are egocentric too. The ego can be hard to recognize and harder to avoid.
But maybe I'm okay with that too. My ego is a part of me isn't it? My ego was made by me wasn't it? I make my hair too, and if I don't tend to it it frizzles in the most horrifying ways. But a little conditioner, some time braiding and I can be content with it. Why cannot it not be so with the ego? The world is a mess, but I am a part of it, and responsible for some of that mess, why, then, would it be so terrible to try and tend to it?
I'm sorry sit_teh, that wasn't very silent or very Zen. I guess I'm out of practice.

“silence is the language of god, all else is poor translation.” -rumi
I was told to keep a journal one day as a teenager. I bought a small note pad. I wrote a few quotes and a few of my own words in it. There wasn't so much coming to me. I put that aside. All that I have read in the last 10 years were meditation philosophies. Even these I have put aside.
Things as they are...perfectly honest!
