A monk asked the priest Kan-feng:
-Bhagavats in the ten directions got one straight road to Nirvana. I dare to ask where that road is?
Kan-feng lifted up his staff, drew a line in the air, and said:
-Here it is.

Yes that is true in human culture / human tradition or in human livelihood ...perhaps Buddhism concept is beyond such understanding .........perhaps in Buddhism there is no good verses bad , no true verses false , no right verses wrong ...........is self realization towards self acceptance leading to freedom from self into emptiness back to nothingness not by desire or emotion but by a process of realization and is natural not by choice .

vertical line RYOKAN AND THE THIEF
Ryokan, a Zen master, lived the simplest kind of life in a little hut at the foot of a mountain. One evening a thief visited the hut only to discover there was nothing to steal.
Ryokan returned and caught him. "You have come a long way to visit me," he told the prowler, "and you should not return empty-handed. Please take my clothes as a gift."
The thief was bewildered. He took the clothes and slunk away.
Ryoken sat naked, watching the moon. "Poor fellow," he mused, "I wish I could have given him this beautiful moon."

how does one find it?

In my current understanding , if one have desire or intention or plan or emotion to find it , it will always lead to ownselves , creates more self and it would be longer more suffering journey into self realization.

Buddhism is a process that naturally not by choice .....thats my current understanding .

Sorry in advance , I am not being confrontational and sincerely just sharing some of the lesson which I had learned from the above story .....if I could understand the meaning correctly , please help to explain if my understanding is different ........the zen master perhaps have a compassionate heart of giving the best , sharing the best with others ......... yes in human knowledge perhaps even by accepted human wisdom , that will be a gesture of kindness .....a sense of emptiness , a emotion of freedom of attachment ......thats great realization even in the concept of Buddhism in my current understanding ...perhaps Buddhism is beyond that realization ........perhaps by comparing the moon with the clothes , with the attachement on what is better , what is great is suffering to the master .......he still entertaining his desire on knowing the good , accepting knowledge as his basis of judgement even living as part of his own knowledge .....perhaps in the concept of Buddhism , the clothes is as same and equal as the moon ............perhaps he still attached to his knowledge that the thief is there to steal or to have something from him .....

Thats part of my realization of the story , please share .

If there is an arrow pointing the way
Then do you keep staring at the arrow or do you go in the direction it is pointing??

In Buddhism, one is given many methods for finding ones true nature
Why are you so intrigued by concrete, pebbles, brick or grass??
Why do these things draw your attention away?

"it's spread across the open grass".
