On one occasion, the Buddha said to the monks this:
"No other form do I know, O monks, that so persists in obsessing the mind of a man as the form of a woman.
The form of a woman persists in obsessing the mind of a man.

"No... continue...

vertical line Posted on Apr.15.2013 @ 09:13AM EDT by cinchona
Emptiness - "fluctuating form" or "void of life"?

In Buddhism one calls that which has no distinguishable border "Empty"
it is not a description of "content" but a description of "change".

vertical line Keichu makes a cart.

Keichu made a cart whose wheels had a hundred spokes.
Take both front and rear parts away and remove the axle: then what will it be?

vertical line Yes, and it is clear by the story the cart would not become "empty", but rather "useless"

Perhaps " emptiness' is a condition free of "pollution".........as human perhaps is a condition freedom of emotions / desire etc even the will to exist ........

Life is just a tiny part in the whole process leading to emptiness .........

Thats my current understanding ,

vertical line The point is the cart is empty, like life is empty, the motion of life is empty like the motion of the cart is empty, but once we put our hearts and minds together there is only potential, and the emptiness becomes filled with opportunities.

.........

To me , that is still part of the process into emptiness ...just like if you in a river flowing down towards the sea ....but just about to reach the sea , you found something to hold on and swim against the current away from the sea .......yes your actions seems makes you away from the sea but still you are suffering due to your resistance ......still the water continue flowing into the sea and one day , you will "found yourself" and flowing with the current into the sea .......Buddhism is the water in the river continue flowing down , YOU are always in the river regardless what you do ....

Thks

vertical line It seems like they say... The truth is the truth and nothing but the truth.

But is you ask them what truth are they talking about they are pissed off and insulted. They ask instead: You don't know the truth?...lol

.........

You could try to understand it from the point of view of your practice??
Sitting there ... letting the mind quiet down ... less and less things to drag the mind away...
little by little ... mind ... gone ... only awareness ....???

But, I could be wrong and you should just stop thinking??? .... hahahaha

vertical line emptyness is not empty, it is a word describing the interdependence of all things all things are empty of self of individual existence, Emptyness describes the mind with no thought created connections to objects to sense to understanding (as in described and discussed) . It does not indicate a place a way of being as separate to any other way of being. being is being, and all being (un-contemplated) is empty.

Here is the interesting bit, instead of going away and creating 'emptyness' i have a question:

is there anything which does stand alone and therefore is not empty of self (because it has a self standing self creating and self extinguishing)

A hint: the empty mind has accepted its interconnectedness to everything else.
