When Yang-shan Hui-chi (807-883), as a young monk, paid a visit to the Ch'an master
Hsing-k'ung, there was a monk who asked Hsing-k'ung:
-What is the meaning of the Patriarch's coming from the West?
Hsing-k'ung replied:
-Suppose... continue...

→→→→ vertical line TOPIC: THE MIND IS EMPTINESS
vertical line Posted on Apr.25.2013 @ 11:44PM EDT by leoj99
The Mind is Emptiness.

Most people think their mind is not empty.
So what have you ever think about and talked about that is not empty?

Zen Master can easily prove that the mind is empty by answering questions like: What did Daruma came to China for?... The oak tree in the front garden which was not a seed yet when he came to China.

What is your original face before you parents were born?

The mind cannot answer those questions because it is empty.

How can something empty produce or create something not empty?

vertical line Zen Masters asked: Show me your mind. I think no one can show their mind. How can you show something that is empty?

vertical line I believe that the answer is as simple as it appears.
It has never been enough that a man could depend soley upon himself.
how could he? thats my answer to these questions

if you have a possble answer why not write it down for us all to reflect on.

vertical line In Buddhism, "emptiness" is one of the most misunderstood words.
It has not a thing to do with nothingness but seems many believe it so.

If the mind is emptiness then where do all these thoughts come from?? .... hahaha

vertical line Here are a few words about emptiness from Justin.
Worth reading again.

emptyness is not empty, it is a word describing the interdependence of all things all things are empty of self of individual existence, Emptyness describes the mind with no thought created connections to objects to sense to understanding (as in described and discussed) . It does not indicate a place a way of being as separate to any other way of being. being is being, and all being (un-contemplated) is empty.

Here is the interesting bit, instead of going away and creating 'emptyness' i have a question:

is there anything which does stand alone and therefore is not empty of self (because it has a self standing self creating and self extinguishing)

A hint: the empty mind has accepted its interconnectedness to everything else.

Again you missed the point. Emptiness is not empty.
The state of mind is being reflection of awareness ...  no self, no thing, emptiness,

vertical line If the mind recognizes and understand its emptiness then there is nothing to impose. It recognizes the emptiness of other minds so there is no conflicts. The end of samsara.

THE KNOWING OF THE REALIST

I know my-self and all that exists to be ‘reality’.

Reality as you see it. Reality as it is.

There is only reality.

Non-reality does not exist, other than as words that can be written, read or heard, in ‘reality’.

This reveals that reality therefore stands alone.

Know that if a ‘thing’ stands alone, with no contrast to any-thing else to give it any distinction or definition, but yet it is there, then that thing then can only be known as ‘no-thing’.

Just as the number one can only be such if there is another number to create contrast, but, where there is no other number and yet ‘one’ is there, then ‘one’ truly is ‘no-number’.

Reality, being ‘no-thing’ as ‘all-things’, is what you see when you sit and look.

Sitting and looking is the heart of Zen.

No-thing as some-thing.

This is where you see ‘no-thing’ the paradox’.

You see reality itself, ‘the great contradiction’.

No-thing-ness, is all that you can see. All that you can know. All that you can be.

With this revelation comes the realization that everything is then truly empty of its own self, yet all is what it is.

This is the knowing of empty-ness.

Contradiction in motion. No-thingness. Empty-ness. Paradox as it is.

Now realize the truth. If ‘you’ now consider that ‘you’ are no-thing-ness, empty-ness, paradox, contradiction, then ‘you’ will be infinitely trapped, and ‘you’ will never be the living truth.

Ultimately, the knowing of the realist will be known as an illusion.

That which ‘you’, when awakened, will not see or know.

When ‘is’ is neither ‘is’, nor is it not ‘is’.

Do you wish me to show you emptiness??
How do I show you what is not there?? .... hahaha

When you have let go of thoughts and emotions, what is left??
Emptiness?? But, where is your awareness then??
Self does not exist apart from other ... it is all together.
When you have emptiness of mind, there is no self, no ego, no thing
But, it is not empty. Where is your awareness???
What does your awareness reflect??
Who observes and what is there to observe?

So emptiness is mistaken and misunderstood.

Look at your self. Does it exist separate from your body? The mind??
Does your body exist separate from the earth??
Is the earth separate from the sun??
It is all together.

But, if you wish then you can see it your way.
Neither is wrong .... hahahaha
