→→→→ vertical line TOPIC: TRUE MEDITATION
vertical line Posted on May.18.2013 @ 04:52AM EDT by cinchona
The spiritual teacher J. Krishnamurti said something very important when he declared that true meditation lasts twenty-four hours a day. True meditation occurs when you dive deep into our mind and stay there.

Your thoughts?

What percentage of the 24 hours you are thoughtless that is meditation..

.........

You're confusing some state of mind (such as "no mind", or mushin no shin, or the still mind of samadhi) with meditation.

Meditation is awareness, or watching. In meditation, when thoughts arise and do what they do, one just watches them arise and do what they do. When things happen, like cars passing by or leaves falling from trees, one just watches these things arise and do what they do also. If there are thoughts that come from falling leaves, one watches that too. If there are no attachment thoughts, then one is just mindful of leaves falling, or cars passing, or being hungry and going to get something to eat. This is not thoughtlessness though.

Meditation does not mean "no thinking" or "no mind". It just means pay attention.

Actually, meditation is just being conscious. It can be conscious of anything. Making meditation about some particular state of consciousness means trying to make mediation special, probably because you yourself want to feel special.

There's nothing more special about meditation than there is about putting on shoes.
There's nothing more special about some state of "no thinking" than there is about saying "Good morning" to your neighbor.

If you make any of these things special, then you my friend are THINKING special. That is attachment thinking. And that is why we say pay attention.

vertical line See, even Krishnamurti made meditation special. It's okay, we need to be able to distinguish one thing from another, so as we watch the tide roll in and out, we have to be able to call it "high" and "low".

It's still just water though.

Well we don't need to argue what meditation is. Most people do argue with so many things in Zen Forums as if their words or their definition or understanding is the right way.

The bottom line is if your life is less stressful than before your medition is working. If you have eliminated your sufferings even though there are problems in your life then your meditation is working...lol

Like water, it can be gentle, useful, and healing, and is completely necessary for health.

vertical line Meditation is itself, unconditionally.

You are either aware of it or not.

There are different stages, attainments and benefits that come with meditation but those things are not very important.

To simply be aware of meditation is all you need. And I think that is what Zen is pointing too.

to me Buddhism is all bout SELF realization ...........realizing yourself and you is always in condition of awake ......is nothing about any practice or the need to creates an emotion but realizing ownselves will lead into a journey of decreasing the self towards emptiness back into nothingness ....thats my current understanding on Buddhism.

vertical line When one experiences the truth about ones nature or existence, one sees this life as delusion.
When one only sees this life as the truth of nature, one holds onto this life ... clings to this belief of truth.
This is the nature of suffering. As one believes this is the only truth, experiences proves to one this is all there is.
Then when pain and old age comes, holding onto this belief becomes the reason for suffering.
Experience of the truth beyond words, lets the one know the true nature of existence.
That one is much more than what we believe to be real.
We live in this world but we are not only of this world.
Remove the notions of what is truth and suffering is rendered part of the delusion.

Why in the world would anyone believe that bringing the mind to breathe would bring kensho??
Meditation is not the practice that brings us closer to the truth.
And, I know that I will hurt many if I tell the secret
Yet others will not believe and continue their cycle of karma
Practice? Yes, and it is either endless meditation or consciousness conditioned by ignorance.
Which would be better .... hahaha

I wish everyone will see and understand the truth of their very existence.
Thank You for lending and ear.

Seeing this life as delusion is the dualistic opposite of seeing this life (as a permanent being) as truth. Yes, life as a permanent being is a delusion.

Drop truth and delusion...they're two sides of the same coin.

One moment to the next, when all truth and delusion is gone, there is nothing to hold onto or cling to.

Then when you drink tea, you can just enjoy tea. When you go to work, just go to work. When you talk to a friend, just talk to a friend. When it's time to die, it's just time to die. No problem. All life as a human being is accepted, without worries about "truth" and "delusion".

You are full of hurtful speech. At some time or another, we all are. At some time or another, we all have pain from other people, and cause pain for other people.

I am often hurt by hurtful speech, sometimes when it's directed at me, sometimes when I see it directed at others.

This doesn't make me weak, or stupid, or insane, or wrong. It makes me HUMAN.

It's what allows me to care for myself and for other people, including you.

When you are hurtful to others, you are also hurtful to yourself. But you do have the ability to stop. Unless you just like hurting.

No.. Not everyone is on the path to great wisdom and compassion. Actually most people are are on the path of great unwisdom and non-compassion...lol

vertical line Come to my place, and you will see the wisdom and compassion in everyone and everything.

Then life and death will be no problem.

A cup of coffee will just be a cup of coffee.

And you will not call people stupid and autistic. Because you'll know better.

vertical line My nephew has autism. He just got invited to a dance by a girl who really likes him. He's very excited, although he shows his excitement in a very different way than most people because of his autism.

He understands the world in ways that many people do not, because his mind is such that he can't ignore things that many people learn to ignore.

He likes to be with people who are nice to him, and he doesn't like to be around mean people with anger, who call other people names. When he sees those people, he just runs away.

  • (of angles) between opposite sides of the intersection of two lines.
  • Botany (of leaves or shoots) arising in pairs at the same level on opposite sides of the stem.
  • 2completely different; of a contrary kind:a word that is opposite in meaning to another currents flowing in opposite directions
  • [attributive] being the other of a contrasted pair:the opposite ends of the price range

If we are to use the language of English as the medium of communication then we should have a constant a standard by which to base the definition of words for the benefit of communicating individuals and to facilitate understanding, thereby i use the accepted standard definition (above ) a paradox means to say to separate (sometimes opposite) things which do not fit together, in the post it is said there is no opposite of truth but to further explain and evidence this perspective you then use the definition of opposite to truth. This in the current paradigm of English is a paradox.

if you mean a concept of opposites is just a continuation of duality, that is a much different issue, but that is not what has been said.

I have a close family friend who is Autistic and she may misunderstand the commonly held standard things, but she understands other things far better then the other people around her. She went to Thailand and got very ill by the shock of the poverty and the crush of materialism. She was hospitalised. She is ok now but i think she is way to understanding of this place and it is a physical pain for her.

Human beings are very good at deceiving themselves, and ignoring. People with autism aren't so good at that, and they aren't so good at hiding their feelings, so they can teach us a lot about seeing things just as they are and responding like real human beings. It can be very painful, but what choice do they have?

People with autism are very brave and strong that way.
