On one occasion, the Buddha said to the monks this:
"No other form do I know, O monks, that so persists in obsessing the mind of a man as the form of a woman.
The form of a woman persists in obsessing the mind of a man.

"No... continue...

→→→→ vertical line TOPIC: HOW DO YOU DO YOU?
vertical line Posted on Jul.12.2013 @ 10:28PM EDT by pudgala2
The point of Zen is to pay exquisite attention to how you interpret/respond/react/reply to whatever you are sensing and the consequences you experience as a result of your interpretation/response/reaction/reply. You decide what any event means to you. On the Path of the Buddhas everything you encounter qualifies as a teaching event.

Experience is not what happens to you. Experience is what you do with [how you process] what happens to you. ~ Aldous Huxley

Ideology is the unspoken assumptions [sentient beings] that organize your experience of something. ~ Michael Pollan

Remember, your brain doesn't care what idea you believe and then perceive. Your healthy brain will instantly convert into your subjective life experience of the moment any idea that you believe. ~ Maxie C. Maultsby, Jr., M.D.

The ultimate quest of Zen is to answer the question "How do you do you?" This was what Gautama was looking for sitting alone in the forest under the Bodhi Tree and he outdid himself!

vertical line The question is ... [always] put in the hope of eliciting a definitive reply.

eg.
Q - Where do you live?
A - Where you are let in.
[That place is the hereness of your questioning to answer.]

vertical line If you had any inkling of what you purport to know about, you'd be related to your binary either/or choice. In the meantime, try some sesquipedalian on your western guano toast.

vertical line Here's one: when someone tells you what, if anything, happened, you'll be equipped to think about what your experience should be - it'll help with the shelf-stacking in the vast hypermarket of your opinion.
