One day Yao-shan Wei-yen (750-834), one of the well-known Chinese Ch'an master, was asked by the host of the monastery to give his sermon to the assembly who for a long while was expecting his teaching. Yao-shan said: "Strike the bell."
IF I WERE A POET
If I were a poet, Instead of thinking and talking about what form or color of a wind is, I would be watching, seeing, and understanding what form or color of my ignorance, anger, greed or desire that covers the relationship between myself and my parents or spouse or children in my family.
If I were a poet, Instead of thinking and talking about what form or color of a wind is, I would be watching, seeing, and understanding what form or color of my ignorance, anger, greed or desire, arrogance... that covers the relationship between myself and my relatives, friends, co-workers, teachers, leaders...in the society or organization.
If I were a poet, Instead of thinking and talking about what form or color of a wind is, I would be watching, seeing, and understanding what form or color of my ignorance, anger, greed or desire, arrogance... that covers the relationship between myself and others on this earth.
When these could be done well, others and I would then live toghether in harmony on this earth.
The 'ego', the 'self' or the 'me' would be reflected to the utmost in the mirror of this kind of relationship.
