馬祖、因僧問、如何是佛。
A monk asked Baso, "What is the Buddha?"
祖曰、非心非佛。
Baso answered, "No mind, no Buddha."
Mumon's Comment 無門曰、
若向者裏見得、參學事畢。
If you understand this, you have finished studying Zen.
Mumon's Verse 頌曰
路逢劍客須呈
不遇詩人莫獻
逢人且説三分
未可全施一片
|
Present a sword if you meet a swordsman;
Don't offer a poem unless you meet a poet.
When talking, tell one-third of it;
Don't divulge the whole at once.
